I am fostering a male Chuawa from my animal shelter, he is sick. we are going to take him to the vet tomorrow, but it is sunday, and i need advice now! I just got him yesterday, and he has thrown up 4 times, he isn't eating anything but grass, he had runny poo, and i am afraid he is going to get worse, i also saw him pee, like a girl, i heard somewhere that it is a warning sign. my mom wont let him in the house right now, but he slept with me all last night, with two throwing up spells. he was really scared at the shelter, shaking and distant, and when i brought him home, he was one of the family! could this just be nerves, or is something seriously wrong? We were going to get him fixed, and then find him a home, but now my mom says that we might have to take him back to the shelter early, because she is going to school for her masters, and has a full time job, she just can't handle a sick dog, with 3 other animals as well IP: Logged |

OK... as far as i know.. (not too far tho) Peeing like a girl is nothing bad... all my male puppies have done that until they are about 6 or 7 mo old, and then they just do it every now and then. Throwing up... this aint good, which does not mean either is TOO BAD. One of the reassons dogs eat grass is to clean them-selves, mines do that at least once every two months, and they do get diarrhea and the whole thing... is not too bad as long as they dont eat poison ivy or any other poison plant. Dogs take time to adapt to new places/families , especially when they come from shelters... cuz most of the time they've been neglected, mistreated, ignored, unloved... I think you should take your dog to the VET cuz noone here cant really tell you wats wrong with him/her (if theres anything wrong), there should be a 24/7 Vet clinic in your area, check the yellow pages...

are you a child???? this really is upsetting it can be nerves yes but i could be a sickness or bug keep him in the house wih a warm room and blanket and just keep checking him till the vet sees him hope he soul gets better....keep me updated______at my email! blondebabe69121@aol.com hey if any1 has pix of there dogz send up to the address above as im making a webby page and i need doggy pix IP: Logged |

And assuming a "Chuawa" is actually a "Chihuahua" - those dogs CANNOT live outside. They are tiny, inside dogs. You were going to get him fixed and then find a home for him? Are you doing rescue of some sort? If so, you seem very unprepared for it. Please let us know how the little guy is doing!

I agree with the above poster (I am an owner , or as I call it, I'm owned by a wonderful female Chihuahua) they are not an outside dog. This could be parvo. Your best bet is to take the dog to the vet ASAP. I dont understand why you'd take him from the shelter (where they spany/neutef ) To bring him to your house where he's kept outside, and you spay and neuter him out of your own money? ------------------ IP: Logged |

Is he throwing up food or white foamy stuff. If foam then he may have kennel cough, which is treatable with anti-biotics. Keep him away from any other dogs until well again, its very catchy, its like a dog cold. Runny poop may be from the food change, since he is probably eating something different than at the shelter. I'm a bit confused here as well, how old is the dog? Why would you take on the project of fostering a dog that you "don't have time for"? Nuetering should have been required before he left the shelter, unless he is too young and in that case they usually make you sign a contract saying you will have it done, give you a coupon to do so, but the adoption fee still includes it. My mother has two chi's and neither would make it outside...they need to be warm. As for the runny poops...you didn't mention any other symptoms, if it is just that it could be as simple as food change or nerves or as serious as parvo, a vet is the only one who can answer that for you. I hope all is well and that you don't take this post the wrong way...there just wasn't enough of an explanation. IP: Logged |
