My friend has a 10 year old Siberian Husky who is losing his hair around his bum and patches on his stomach. He scratches at it and winces when touched in those areas. The skin is also a bit red. I was thinking it could be an allergy or an Autoimmune Skin Disease such as Discoid Lupus. Anyone else have any ideas? I'm not too sure because of the hair loss he has around his bum... stumped!!! THANKS!! ------------------ [This message has been edited by Bodaga (edited 09-10-2003).] IP: Logged |

Hi, it could be anything, the best advice anyone could give at this point is to tell your friend to take the dog to the vet! IP: Logged |

A vet visit sounds like what should be done. Could it be that this dog has anal gland problems. Ten is getting up theres for a Sib. too. He could have some arthrtis and that is what is causing some pain or spinal issues. But really there is just such a huge gammut of things it could be. Time for bloodwork and maybe xrays. IP: Logged |

He's totally agile, believe it or not, it's just weird hair lose patches on his belly and is bum. I used to work at a Vets as a Technician and it's not his anal glands. I took him to the vets today for her and turns out it's just allergies.... He now has new shampoo, food, and takes 1\2 tab of Benedryl a day until symptoms go away. THANKS for your advice everyone! ------------------ IP: Logged |

If the Benadryl doesn't work, you might try hydroxyzine. My dog is on that for allergies, Benadryl doesn't work very well for him. IP: Logged |
