Hi,

How easy is it to get worms from your pets? Just discovered my cats' poop is crawling with worms and now the dog's looking a bit suspect too. (tho' she was de-wormed last month and the vet said NOT to do the cats at the same time, altho I asked) YUCK! The cats sleep on my kids' pillows all night. (Did I say YUCK?)

How do you know if people have worms??????

Well if you had them according to what the research says your butt would itch and you would see them. My new puppy had round worms and tape worms . Round worms come from infected dog feces or they get them from the mother while inside her belly and tape worms come from ingesting an infected flea. So I think you are pretty safe. just make sure that the old poop is disposed of properly so as not to infect your other animals and check you house for fleas. My puppy was loaded with worms when I got her but she's all better now. It is gross but it's just something dogs can get. Just get them the medicine and they will soon be gone.

When my son was 3, he got worms from his sandbox. Turns out it is quite common. Cats or other infected animals leave eggs and humans get them by not washing their hands after being in an infected area. Yes, your butt will itch, and it will itch mostly at night. The cure is simple, 2 pills from the pharmacist and you're healed.

Your dog can get worms from your cat if your cat is traipsing around the house after "scratching" in the litterbox or outside. Get the cat wormed, and get the dog checked! And tell everyone to wash their hands after handling the animals! Once the worms are treated and are gone, you're safe again.
My doctor and pharmacist laughingly told me how common it was for kids to get worms....I didn't think it was funny, I thought it was GROSS!

Its common for kids to get worms, not adults. Kids play in sand boxes, sometimes eat dirt and other gross stuff, and don't have the best hygiene. If you have good hygiene I think you are okay.

Take pets to the vet for a de-worming, and kids to the doctor or local Public/County Health. I worked for PH for a few years and we saw a lot of kids infected with worms. They are easy to treat.

Wait a minute, why would your vet not want you to treat all your animals at once? That seem really odd to me.

OH MY GOD!!! My dogs sleep in my bed and me and Jon.. well.. umm.. you know.. (Big people things.. lol) Should I be worried? lol.. you guys got me paranoid.. thanks.. Now I am giving the pets away.. lol. Kidding.. But is that something to be careful about.. Have to sleep in a wet suit now.. lol. Anyhow.. this has me thinking now.. The cats don't sleep on the beds or furnitue, they have this thing with sleeping on the top shelf of the closet.. or some place high where the pups won't bother them.. Wylie will just sleep on the dogs, upside down, sideways, crooked, twisted however.. just let him sleep.

Worms are zoonotic which means they CAN spread to people no matter if they are children or adults.
Practicing good hygiene will eliminate this problem.
Always wash after handeling your dogs waste. Always wash before eating, drinking, and smoking.
You cant always see worms. The eggs are microscopic. You and your dog can have worms and not even know it.
Just because you dont see them dosent mean they are not there!
sp001 if you have expelled worms that dosent mean they actually went away unless they were treated. Your body is just expelling the dead adults. Make sure to get checked out by a physician. If left untreated for too long you can get very sick. SAME AS YOUR DOG.
I wouldnt worry about the pups sleeping in your bed unless he is spreading fecal matter and you are somehow ingesting it.
Just practice good hygiene and get your dog dewormed yearly.
Armywife are you sure that wasnt ring worm?

sp001 if you are getting worms go to your local Public Health office or to a Doctor. Worms don't go away until they are treated. Even if you don't see them for awhile they are probably still there.
