First let me start by thanking everyone for their thoughts and prayers during the dark hours of Odie's illness. He made it thru Thurs night and Friday. And the doctor said if he could make it thru that he has a good chance of survival. We went to see him last night 8/22/03. He is so weak but we took great joy in seeing his little tail wag when he saw us. He drank a little water from a bowl and managed to keep it down. He has not vomited in over 24 hrs and is remaining hydrated (with IVs). His doctor says he could be home with us by Sunday if he continues to progress. We look forward to having him home and nursing our baby back to health. We realized we have a long road ahead of us but at least we now have hope!!! Any adivce on how to help him in recovery would be greatly appreciated. Again thanks to you all for your support! Your thoughts, prayer and messages really got us thru the darkest moments. Alright Odie.I'm so very glad to here your Odie is doing much better. We had a Doberman that caught parvo back several years ago so Things might have changed since then. The Vet had us start him out on Baby ceral(rice)and the strained baby food(meat),also we had to disinfect the house and yard,Feeding &watering dishes&sleeping area so he wouldn't be reexposed he had us use bleach solution. As I said this was years ago so there might be other ways but good ole bleach is good germ killer along with lysol.I hope this helps a little.I pray that Odie keeps getting better and gets to come home Sunday. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Chancerboy (edited 08-23-2003).] IP: Logged |

Rhonda, Thanks for the advice. We've been cleaning like crazy since last night. Bleach washing tile, toys (those that can be), dishes, bedding. We are in the process of steam cleaing carpets (was never told to do it-but just felt we needed to do something there too). I am anxiously awaiting the dr's call back this a.m. to see how he did last night. We continue to pray for Chance! Odie's family IP: Logged |

Hurray for little Odie!!!! The good news is that he is likely to aquire immunity to parvo from now on. He went thru a lot though, and so did you. I believe he will still have to be on some medication for a while, but the most important thing is for him to get his strength back. Try giving him NuVet Plus vitamins. They are awsome!!! YaY! Odie....I'm so happy to hear your little guy is pulling through. I think you are right to steam clean the carpets. I Board my horse with two others at a friends barn, this past week one of the horses came down with Strangles, which like parvo is highly contagious and can live in the dirt and ground for a very long time. I am struggling to try and get the others to understand how important it is to sterilze anything that comes into contact with the horse...and keep them separate. Anyhow..anything you can do to reduce the risk of reinfection is a good thing. Hugs to you and your Odie, Maisey IP: Logged |

Thanks to your quick action you have saved Odies life. Instead some would have waited to see if they could cure the dog themselves. Good for you. IP: Logged |
