I don't know what else to call them. It started out as not so bad an occasional thing, but now it's 10 times a day. My puppy will get all worked up, start barking and jumping on us and biting us, or just barking and jumping in circles around us, anytime he wants something he can't get (for example our attention or treats). I looked at past posts, they suggest raising your knee to prevent the dog from jumping on you, but that doesn't work. I try ignoring him, but he'll run off and do something he knows will get our attention like start eliminating or picking at the rug. Nothing we do seems to work we try to distract him by having him sit and settle. That works till we release him then he's at it again. We are starting obedience training in two weeks. Will this help? Can anyone suggest anything else to do to help? I take him for about 2 or 3 walks in our woods where can run freely(it's not long maybe 1/2 mile total) My husband and I walk him another mile in the evening together and then we are always playing fetch and with his rope, so I don't htink this is out of boredom. I guess I should add he's just 14 weeks now and is a Lab Retriever Mix. The Humane Society said his mom was shar-pei and he looks like he might have some pit bull in him. It seems to me like he is doing this to get us "down to his level". We spent a lot of time on the floor and grass with him when we first got him. Could this be the cause? How to we change it? oh well I appreciate any advice anyone can offer. [This message has been edited by NewLabOwnr (edited 08-21-2003).] IP: Logged |

I think the obedience classes will help alot...explain very clearly the behavior he displays to the trainer if it's not something she/he gets to witness. Hang in there! Maybe someone else will have advice. IP: Logged |

I think you have a normal puppy, with the exception that he could be a bit more forward. Yes, obedience WILL help! A lot of what i have been reading lately says not to knee a jumping pup (this could physically harm a pup) instead only yell one word "OFF" and turn your back on pup. Also try giving a command like sit when you sense your dog is going to jump. I found this article helped me with my jumper! IP: Logged |
