I have a problem my poodle loves to get into trash. She doesn't bother the trash in the kitchen, I think its because it's not at her level. But the trash in the bathroom is were she gets into trouble. I try to always shut the door when I'm in there, but sometimes I forget. I was thinking maybe if I get a trash can that has an enclosed lid that flips to put the trash in, maybe she will stay out of it since she cant see directly in. Any advice would be wonderful. I'm sick of her eating the trash.

My dog also likes to get into the bathroom garbage I keep the door shut most of the time but when I don't I just set the small garbage can on top of the back of the toilet which is out of her reach. I think getting a can with a lid might help....maybe I will try that too.

Gee. if your poodle is only eating and spreading your bathroom garbage, consider yourself lucky! I had a miniature once who ate my house until he was 2 years old.....
It's easy to remember to close the door or put up the can, and harder to invest the time and patience to bait the dog and catch it and correct the behaviour. But for best long term results, I would opt for the training. Leave the door open and keep an eye on the dog, and when it goes into the trash, say "Bad Dog!", take the dog away from the garbage and offer it something acceptable for it to chew. I've had 3 poodles and only one of those wasn't a quick study. My current mutt loves eating anything that he can reach. He's been trained to search out and chew his rawhide bone when he's inside. When he was caught with something forbidden, it was "bad dog" and then out in the backyard for a "time out". He was let back in after some minutes, and I would meet him at the door with a rawhide bone in my hand. He hates not being in the house with us and after some months of this ritual, he's usually very good. Now, oddly enough, when he gets the urge to grab something forbidden, he'll bring it to me and release it in front of me.
Also understand that most dogs will turn to naughty behaviour when bored or lonely. Sometimes, sacrificing an old sneaker, some old underwear (yes really!) or some piece of clothing with your scent keeps them company when you need to be away for a long time, say, while you're at work.

Hey there, Tucson, yes it's been real hot here in Phoenix. But we got buckets of rain last night and today is rather pleasant! My first poodle literally destroyed my apartment. He tore a hole in the center of the living room carpet where there was no seam and ate the carpet and pad. I never found any remnants! He ate an entire record album, cover and all. And around Christmas time, I came home for lunch from work one day and the Christmas tree was on its side on the floor and dog was hiding behind the sofa -- man, I woulda given anything to have seen that action! He never bothered any Christmas tree after that....!!!! Once he grew out of puppydum, he was a super dog. I've always loved poodles. They don't shed and they're really smart.
