To another dog lovers :-D

While we all want to help others and their dogs, we at times might be making a suggestion that could a dog!!

When we say " Use xyz oitment, pill, etc.," we put the dog at potential risk, harm, or potential death.

What might be OK for your dog might cause problems, harm, or death to another dog.

What about saying " I used xyz, and while it worked for my dog, PLEASE check with your Vet first!"

I don't want to imgaine how someone would feel if another owner took what we said to USE AS THE ULTIMATE WORD and their dog was harmed or died!!

I hope I have not upset anyone I truly want the best for all of you and your dogs.

I do agree with you, but I also think that if someone was to use a product and then blame it on someone from a message board, then its their fault. They should know that we are not vets and therefor dont take everything we say as if we were. We are only here to help others in the ways we can, not to act like we are better than anyone else. I'm not arguing with you I just thought I would add that.

onedog3cats I think maybe that should be said for the people who would take the advice literally and blame the the poster if something should happen. If I take a persons advice on this board, I am taking it at my own risk and would not blame the person giving it if somehting happened. That is the chance I am taking if I choose not to consult my vet, but other people may be different

I think that all points of view thus far were perfectly said. Don't just jump on the first thing you hear. Research it and ask questions. Then if you feel right about it feel free to use it. but know that this forum IS just advise from people that have dealt with same issues and and were not vets, but do have some knowledge from going thru things ourselves. Blame no-one but yourself if it does not go right. If in real doubt see a vet.

In the months I have been on this site...I don't think I have ever seen a post that didn't go out of it's way to tell the person to check with their vet, research it more themselves or start out by saying "in my case.." etc. I think everyone has been very responsible. Any person who has taken advice off this board, should understand that the actions they take, no matter what they read here...are their own. It is common sense.

1Dog has brought up a good reminder. especially for newbies or anyone looking for a "cheap" fix - meaning those looking to avoid a vet bill. Taking a strangers advise over that of a vet can put a dog at serious risk and be costly later.

I, like most, *always* make a point of telling the poster to check with their vet first. ONLY the vet can accurately diagnose the problem. My words speak the passive form - I have heard...may work....possibly an option....you might want to look into.....etc. Make note of the advice ppl give, do your research, discuss with vet, seek 2nd opinion from another vet (if necessary) and go from there.

What works for one won't *necessarily* work for another.
