I have been researching different dog foods. I currently feed my 6mth old toy poodle science diet. Ever since I found out that its not that healthy I have been looking for different brand. I think I am going to change to "Nutro Natural Choice Lamb Meal& Rice Formula". What are your opinions on this brand. Does anyone one use Nutro? The information on this brand looks really healthy. here is a link to check it out. http://www.petco.com/product_info.asp?familyid=10014&sku=7910520170&tab=1&dept_id=193&c1=182&c2=183&c3=193&ct1=Food&ct2=+By+Brand&ct3=Nutro+Natural+Choice IP: Logged |

I have my dog on a special food called Innova, but from what I have read from previous posts, Nutro is the best commercially made food. Honeybear IP: Logged |

Innova, Wellness, and California Natural are expensive the first time you purchase the pet food. The expensive price is well worth it!! Less food is required and you don't need to purchase it as often as a pet food such as Pedigree. Here are (2) links for your review. http://www.natura.com http://www.oldmotherhubbard.com Many high quality pet food companies will send you a *free* sample. It's a great way to see if your pet will eat the food. If you can't find a store that carries Innova, California Natural, or Wellness in your area, many Feed Stores will special order pet food for you. WJF has a top ten ranking of the best dog food each year. IVD, Best in Show, Natural Balance, and Eagle Pack have been and/or on their list as well. ------------------ IP: Logged |

The Whole Dog Journal every year releases their top 10 choices of quality brands. When people ask me about types of kibble I advise checking out the link below http://www.simplyschnauzer.net/wdjtopten.html Which is the WDJ top foods. Also mentioned are things to look for and things to avoid when deciding on a food. **Also just because a particular brand of food isn't mentioned here doesn't mean it isn't good. I personally believe a fresh food diet consisting of whole raw foods is one of the best diets, before any processed food, but I've known plently of dogs who do well on either. IMO, Nutro is a decent food and definately a step up from SD. JAS posted the 2002 WDJ top food list which contains lots of great foods. I don't think there is a link to the 2003 list so here are the new foods that were added this year: *Artemis Natural 6 Mix *Bench & Field Holistic Natural Canine Formula *Burns Brown Rice and Ocean Fish *Drs. Foster & Smith Adult Maint. Formula, *Chicken and Brown Rice *Go! Natural Super Premium Chicken, Fruit and Vegetable Diet *Royal Canin Natural Blend Adult Formula *Prairie Lamb & Rice Medley *Verus GP Advantage Diet: Chicken Meal, Oats and Brown Rice IP: Logged |

Thanks nern - - yes that was the 2002 WDJ I posted - - thanks for adding this years foods. I thought about this some more and I still like the WDJ recommendations from 2001, 2002 and 2003 - every year it changes a bit as new products come out but by looking at all years gives more variety, especially for those who have a hard time finding a pet supply that carries the premium foods.
