Help! Need advice on what to do with dog, she is a jack russel dog, healthy as far as i know. She keeps pooing in the house, i would understand if we were out and she did it but no she does it when all the doors are open. Yesterday she did it in the front room and my 9 month old baby thought it was foodm you can imagine the rest. She knows she has been bad as she wont go anywhere near us and goes straight outside to her kennel. She is a lovely, healthy dog otherwise.

There is not really a lot that you can do. make sure that they are old enough to have bladder and boul control. then, when she does go outside and do her business, praise her, and play with her for about 15 minutes, and if she is in the house, put her in her crate. then, before you let her out and about in the house, take her outside, if she does both businesses, they praise her, and let her play in the house. the minute she does something, don't spank her, take her out, then put her in her crate. it sounds nasty, but take the poo outside, and show it to her, so she will know where to go!

There is alot you can do. Start by keeping the dogs with you at all times in the house attatch a leash to you and the dog. Secondly if you dont catch the dog in the act of doing the dirty deed you have no right to punish the dog. You are the one at fault. If you punish a dog after the act the only thing the dog correlates being punished to is the act of pooping not going in the house. Praise the dog when he goes outside make it a huge deal. If you find it in the house just clean it up say nothing. If you catch the dog in the act stop the action a can of pennies shaken works really well then take the dog immediately outside and praise him when he does something out there.

Rich I have been having the same problem with my 6mth old poodle. She is potty trained and she goes outside to "go potty". But since last week when I walk in the living room and saw her mess she had made, shes done it about 4 more times. I dont understand why this is. I just got her spayed on Tuesday so maybe that is the reason. But that isnt the reason for last weeks incident. And its weird cause she doesnt do it all the time. She does go out side and "go" to, its just a few times here and there. Hopefully this will pass

I agree with RottyMommy here...but would like to add that you need to clean the place in the house where she went with a product like Natures Miracle which can be bought at a pet store. This will completely remove the smell. Also take the poo outside and place it in the spot where you want the dog to go. This will be "the potty spot". If you don't thoroughly clean the spot inside the house the dog will associate that spot as his potty spot. Persistence, Patience and Consistency.

Was the dog previously housebroken? If this is something new, maybe heoshe is a little jealous of the baby. I agree that you have to catch them in the act if they are to remember. When I would catch them in the act, I would immediately run them outside(or whereever they were supposed to go) and get them to finish there, praising them for good work. If I found it later I threw it away. By taking them out when they get up, after meals and before bed, and trying to keep a good eye open in betweeen, most dogs will develop good habits fast. Jack Eussells are smart and sometimes sneaky. I love mine. Good Luck!
