Hi guys,
My Merlin has made himself so ill and in the most bizzare of ways.
My son left a music tape on the fireplace and for some strange reason, Merlin decided to eat it.
He is now lying on his bed hardly moving and I think it may be a trip to the vet if he doesn't pick up soon.
This is so out of character but hey these things are sent to try us!

Did you go to the vet with him. How did it go?

Luckily I managed to get away without a trip to the vet as he decided to do a few laps of the garden yesterday an then settled down for a toilet break.
To my horror the actual tape started to escape and with a bit of help he managed to get rid of it all.
Not the nicest of events but soon after he was back to normal.
Hopefully he won't have to go through anything like that again as it can't have been the most pleasant of experiences for him!

Rich,

Please call the Vet, even though Marlen appears to be 100% better.
Sometimes a dog or cat can appear 100% better, while actually having an internal problem.

I am glad to hear Marlen is doing better and is on the mend :-)

I think I'll keep an eye on him and see how today goes and I might get in touch with the vet just to run it by them.

I am glad Merlin is getting better. I had a pitbull once. A real baby of a dog. One time he got sick and started vomiting. Things got worse as the day progressed. He ended up having a barium swallow and everything. He had an obstruction. They even did a paracentesis. Finally on his own he took a dump and a part of a torn shoe came out. He must have gotten into it when he was outside. He really scared us though. I bet Merlin will stay away from the tapes from now on. Take Care.

Our dogs try and digest some strange objects don't they! Torn Shoe!
Hopefully they learn from these bizzare happenings and think twice about taking a fancy to these things and just stick to their dog food!
Has anybody else had a similar experience?
It would be interesting to hear!

Witt ate a toothpick the other day, I did call my vet...he told me to wait it out. Witt is acting normal, eating, playing and going potty on both counts as normal. I was looking for the toothpick in his stools but to no avail..so I gave up. I still keep worrying about it, thinking if it is stuck somewhere it might take a while for it to become infected or cause problems, but I worry no matter what, I can't help it!

Hi There,
Maisey, I wouldn't worry to much if I was you with regard to not seeing the toothpick as the chances are that it has been broken down by the stomach acids. I know it can be hard not to worry but I think it's worth bearing this in mind and just to let you all know, there have been no further problems with Merlin, He seems to have made a full and speedy recovery!
