My daughter just told me she was feeding Witt bits of hotdogs off a toothpick, she said he got the toothpick and swallowed it! I could kick her ever living butt.... but I think she is scared enough at this point. Am I just suppose to wait this out? Maybe check his stools for the culprit? He is acting fine, he didn't make any choking noises or anything of the sort and I have checked his mouth...nothing. Would a toothpick even show up on an X-ray?

It probably would depending on where it is at. Considering dogs swallow things alot larger than this I wouldnt be too concerned. Keep an eye on his stools and peeing. Make sure he is doing both without any problems. If there is blood in either or he is having trouble going to the vet immediately you shall go . Good luck

I don't know that a toothpick is dense enough to show up on x-ray, but you might want to call your vet and ask him/her about it if you haven't already.

I couldn't stand it..I called my vet. He said it would probably pass without problem, he didn't seem worried. He said if it were a bigger stick he would be concerned, told me to just keep an eye on him. He also told me to make my daughter check his stools (he knows her and was just teasing)as a lesson. I still can't help thinking it might puncture something.

I agree to just keep an eye on him. If he didn't choke or show stress swallowing it, hopefully he just swallowed it and it will pass. I'd watch his behavior/bathroom movements and maybe call and ask the vet about it over the phone.

I had a friend whose dog ate a roll of quarters and passed them! (Not that it's good it happened and they did go to the vet.) But, since it was a toothpick... hppefully it will be okay.

To put it another way, my dog sometimes grabs sticks and gnaws on them and must swallow some of the wood from time to time. Luckily, we haven't had a problem yet.

Good luck, I hope it goes well!

The vet did say that dogs eat sticks all the time and swallow slivers when they do...he said it's not a good thing, but he said Witt would probably be fine. He knows I am a big worrier, he told me to relax.

Well it's 12:30 AM and he has not passed anything. Making me nutty! He is still acting fine, playing and doing all the normal things. My husband said as soon as I stop watching him, he'll go number two! I'm gonna give him castor oil soon! (kidding)
