Hello, I have a toy chihuahua who recently started losing hair. I took it to the vet and after 2 weeks it is still in the same condition event though all the treatments. The vet said to apply an ictiol oinment on all the dog for 7 days, after that my dog got an ivermectin inyection, and swalloed a histafin pill... today I took it again to the vet and she gave me dermodex drops. According with the instructions in the box it is risky to apply it to some young dogs (mine is only 14 weeks old!!) and if I follow the chart it says I just need to put 2 drops to avoid any risks of overdosis. My vet said I can put it more until the dog is completly cover... but...?

I am not sure if this medicament is safe for this kind of dogs, any advice will be appreciated...

What was the diagnosis for your dog losing it's hair in the first place? Is there more than one thing the dog is being treated for?

I think you need to speak with another Vet. I am very concerned, that your Vet is advising you to give more medication than the medication comapny advises you to give!!

I found an article on Mange, for your review. http://www.marvistavet.com/html/demodectic_mange.html

I hope your beloved dog is feeling better soon

Thanks for the article, it is very interesting...

I took my puppy to the vet for a second opinion, he said that the dog didn't have a "red skin" that it is just an allergy...

the doctor gave my puppy some drops of ivermectin to see how it improves in the next 5 days and also a complement for its hair...

I hope my dog is going to be better soon...

I agree with 1Dog3Cats! I would get a second opinion. Have you asked anyone in the toy dog forum? I believe there is a chihuahua owner there.

I'm curious.. what color is the dog? There is a disorder that affects dilute colored dogs (blue, isabella, fawn, etc) called color dilute alopecia, if he's one of the above colors, you might want to do some reading on it. Also, I'm not sure why a vet would give Ivermectin if the dog had an allergy? Usually that's only to get rid of parasites like mites, worms, etc....
