I have an approximately 2 year old doberman/greyhound mix that I rescued a year ago. She is housebroken; however, the last 3 days she has started wetting the bed where we sleep. At first I thought it was a conscious behavior but since have decided that she is sleeping so sound that she just doesn't wake up. Again, this is something that has only recently started and she has slept with me since I have had her. She had some small nodules under her collar which a local vet said was an infection under the skin and gave me Cephlexin which I gave her 500 mg 2 capsules twice a day, and prednisone 10 mg 1 tab 2 times a day. This started about the time I started this medicine (not sure if there is a connection). Also, we adopted a 3rd large dog about a month ago but Gilly seems to have accepted this very well and plays well with this dog. Can you suggest what might be causing this problem? Thanks.

Hi there,

I presume your girl is spayed. It sounds like spay (or urinary) incontinence, which happens to some dogs after spaying. Once a dog is relaxed and sleeping sometimes they can't keep urine in the bladder and are completely unaware of it. I know there are homeopathy remedies & herbs used to treat this successfuly. If your dog has not been spayed, and just to be safe have your vet check her out, an injury or disease can also cause incontinence as can a UTI or bladder infection.

while finding out whats wrong there are diaper type things for female dogs also bellie bands for the males. Good luck.
