I have a 2 year old yorkie who is 99% trained. However, she often urinates on my rugs when I am not paying attention to her. Is there any product that will permenently stay on the rug to keep her from doing this? or any advice at all is appreciated.

There is a product called OFF....or something akin to that in Petsmart and other stores....I think WAL MART has it too....supposedly you spray it on the places YOU DO NOT WANT THEM TO GO. If my SHUG has an accident..it's always on one of my hard to clean rugs....funny how they like to got to a rug or mat !

I think this product works from what I have heard, but have not tried it first hand.

Hope this helps a little,

There is a product called Natures Miracle that you can use that will get rid of the smell permanently. It doesn't just cover up the urine smell but gets rid of it all together. If you don't accomplish that, the dog will continue to associate her urine smell on the rug as signaling that that is her "pee spot".

Hi cara, my mom has a Yorkshire terrier also. I have a Maltese that likes to go do his bizz on the carpet in one certain place.... Do you have a orreck store near you? We use Orreck it is a pet odor remover. They aren't suppose to come back when you spray it. I think there might be another yorkie owner in the toy dogs forum...Maybe go there and ask her. It could be the type breed. My mom's yorkshire terrier did the same thing to. Try putting your yorkie out side to on the pad (which ever your yorkie uses) more often?

My dog is really good about going outside. UNTIL we moved to a new home and changed the carpet. She is attracted to that rug for some reason. A brand new rug and already we have a couple of accidents???? Well, I too use Natures Miracle. The granules soak up the pee and the liquid is great for taking out stain and odor. I can't tell you how much I love this product! You can get it at PetsMart or order it online from PetEdge.

I never tried the granules! I'll have to keep that in mind if we ever have a need. I hated soaking up the pee in a towel.

I have heard a lot before that dogs like to pee on new carpet. Something about the new carpet smell.

Hi Cara,

I have 2 yorkies and they STILL have accidents i always just pull out the carpet shampooer and clean the carpets but after reading the replies you received i think i'm going to go buy some of that stuff and see how that works. I'm gone from home 12 hours a day my kids are gone for 6 so the yorkies have full run of the house they usually just lay on my bed till i come home i used to put them in a play pen but they can climb out so i bought the baby gates and locked them in the kitchen well they figured out how to jump over them so they get to be free in the house. i let them outside when i get up in the morning and before i go to work. my kids let them out before they leave and when they get home they leave the slidder open for them so they can go out if they want but it never fails they still pee on the carpet (mostly in my den) and i also have new carpet i think yorkies are very hard to potty train (well mine are) my rotty Nala was very easy and when we are gone durning the day she stays outside and chase's bird or bug shadows and tries to dig holes so the yorkies can get out and vist the neighbors. she digs holes just big enough for them to slip into the neighbors yard but it's to cold for the Yorkies to go out for that long so i will just have to clean my carpets everyday and buy Natures Miracle and see how that works

good luck to you
