Sugg (Sugar) is doing really well, but does have an ACCIDENT sometimes...mostly my fault for not catching the SIGN. THING is...she will not tell us if she's in her room. THE LAUNDRY ROOM. HER CRATE is there and she NEVER goes in there. She ALMOST NEVER GOES in that room ...but she has for the past two days. Once was last night...she went to sleep early in her room, but did not give us ANY SIGN...she would have had to made a sound, bark, something to get our attention, and she does not. Went on the floor. I have a screen door on my Laundry room so she can see out and has lots of room, and loves it in there, but she will not TELL US if we are NOT IN THE ROOM where she can get to us. ANYBODY have any wisdom on getting her to TALK. SHE ALMOST NEVER EVER makes a sound of any kind. ???? Thanks for any input.... IP: Logged |

Wow. That's a tough one. I'd personally recommend calling your local humane society and asking them for a behavioral helpline number. Sounds like a behavior thing. I'm never good with behavior stuff, especially potty training! Good luck! ~H~ IP: Logged |

Hi, Have you heard the entire speech about feeding at certain times of the day only... about taking her outside every couple hours..etc. Of course there is always take her to the vet and make sure there is nothing medically wrong. Other than that, may I suggest that you encourage vocalizing by using excitement? Meaning when its time to eat (for example) in a real happy, excited voice ask her if she wants to eat... get her "wiggling" for her food. Keep asking... say "huh" "huh" "do ya" "Do ya"...almost sing it to her. This SHOULD get her to almost mimic the sounds you are making. "Do you want to go outside"? "Well sing for momma"... Many people use the command "Speak" for thier pet to recieve a treat. Teach her to "speak" to go outside? I hope this all makes sense. Also, if your humane society can not help you, may I suggest contacting your local kennel club.. obedience classes are soooo worth the money! My formula for the "perfect pet" is... Love + Training = happiness. Tracy IP: Logged |

Thanks for all the input. I have DONE ALL OF THIS...no kidding....but this precious little pup is almost a MUTE. THOUGH NOT REALLY......when she is ready to let you know she's here she sure can. BUT ONLY at something...like deer, people she doesn't know, someone approaching...that kind of thing. As far as SPEAKING about ANYTHING other than that...she is MUTE. I do not know if she has been told to be quiet or hush everytime she barked or not. We got her at 5 months old and I can still count the number of times, we have heard her SAY anything on both hands, three months later. That makes for a SWEET, SWEET, QUIET Puppy, but sometimes, it's be nice to hear her speak and tell me what she wants. We continue to try and teach her. FUNNY YOU SAID START BARKING ....I did that again today and she just looks at me like she thinks I'm crazy. It's just the strangest thing with so many trying to get their pups to be quieter. THANKS AGAIN, I will keep your advise in mind and TRY AGAIN. IP: Logged |

OK, well I did this with my chihuahua who also did the same thing. I got a coke can -any can is fine- and i put coins in it. I taught him that when he hits it hes a good boy, and he gets to go outside. So depending on the size of your house, or even your room, if its small house you can just put the can on the door that leads outside, if its a big house, and she sleeps with you, i would put the can on your door, and she would hit this to tell you she needs to go outside also, if you put it in your room, then remember to have one also at the door that leads outside, so she knows. i dont use the can anymore because my chihuahua got too excited with it after a while and would box it anyway, in the mean time this will teach her tell me when you need to go out. oh yeah, a tip on barking training- if your dog barks when the door bell rings-there you go! teach her to bark on command using the doorbell to provoke her, and once she learns on command to bark, you can get her to learn that when she barks, the door opens. same as the can.. good luck!
