My little SUGAR was just treated for worms on 5/8/03 and I think I saw a roundworm in her stool last week. We tried Pyrantel and it made her very sick. She threw up twice. The vet had given her STRONGID.....but I am trying to save a vet bill after having spent so much on her surgery. Should a worm treatment last longer than that ? Thanks for the input, Nancy IP: Logged |

It does seem early since you only wormed a month and a half ago. Since she did throw up after the pyrantel might not have taken effect. We give STRONGID also, & our vet gave us an extra supply to keep on hand, it is good for a long time and does the job well. Would your vet give you some without checking the dog? IP: Logged |

I actually found it at Wal-mart....it's in tablet or liquid form. Did a long search on the net and found out that pyrantel and strongid are the same. I THOUGHT I saw something once in her stool....white...spagetti looking. NOTHING SINCE THEN. I have concluded that her throwing up is from eating grass. I have to PULL her away from certain grasses. I may have just seen some GUNK she had picked up...eaten or swallowed without my knowledge. ANYWAY, I will now treat her MONTHLY with STRONGID as recommended. Thanks a bunch. How often do you worm ? I buy strongid at the feed store...for my horse. I would think you could get it over the counter for dogs as well. IP: Logged |
