HELP! this is my first time ever training a puppy. i have a wonderful 5 month old pug named mojo. just recently he's starting to lift his leg and mark his territory outside when we take him out to eliminate/relieve himself. which is all great. problem: he's starting to mark his territory INSIDE like on the corner of the bed, a coat tree, a garbage can in the bathroom, etc. HOW DO I GET HIM TO STOP this behavior that i feel is probably instinctive? he will be getting neutered once he's 6 months old - but this inside marking is VERY trying on my husband and i. does ANYONE have any advice?? Try potty training from scratch again. I've heard of some people tying a leash around their waist with the puppy and taking the pup with them around the house. That way you can watch the puppy. Don't leave him to wander around the house freely. Take him out often and praise him bunches when he goes outside. If you catch him in the act tell him in a stern voice "Outside" and take him immediately out. Then praise him when he goes outside in the yard. Oh and crate training is good if you haven't done that already. Good luck and keep us posted. IP: Logged |

Try these: http://www.petorphans.com/bellybands.html when you're home, until you can get him trained to not mark (never done it, so I couldn't tell you how to go about it, but there ARE ways to train them), and when you're not, crate him. You could also try tethering him to you when you're home, so he can't sneak off and mark anything. IP: Logged |

Also...very important to use an enzyme product such as Natures Miracle, which can be purchased at pet stores, to clean up the urine. This doesn't just cover up the smell...it gets rid of it completely. If he can still smell it in your house he will do it again, or other dogs who may visit will. IP: Logged |
