This topic may have been discussed here before, I am new. Here is the problem, though... About a year ago, we adopted our third dog. He is a King Charles Spaniel. Anyways, he is neutered and ever since we've had him, he urinates (just a few drops) on almost everything in the house. He does this usually when nobody else is around, seeing how we find the urine later on. I don't know how to stop him from doing this. I have read that it may be a feeling of insecurity and that is why the dog feels he has to create a "barrier" of urine around the house. ????? Recently, we've been finding #2 as well. He was the only dog before he came to us.. so maybe it is the dominance thing? I'd really like to know what I can do to help him to stop doing this. Is there something I can do to make him feel more secure? He always has an unsure look on his face and is easily spooked. We all love him very much, so we would never return him over something like this.. just need some advice. Thanks! IP: Logged |

interesting theory. How old is this dog? first rule out any medical problem by visiting the vet. You say this problem has be ongoing since you adopted him -- do you know anything about his past? perhaps he was never properly house trained to begin with? is he crate trained? As for his insecurities avoid reassuring or fussing him when he looks and acts this way, as it only encourages this behavior and does nothing to help. continue about and treat him like the others. A self assured and dominant dog does not usually act insecure/spooky so I wouldn't say it was dominance and other than marking i really dont think dogs related relieving themselves with to being dominance. One thing the two of you could do together (depending on his age) is participate in agility or another fun sport. Agility is a great confidence booster and a good way to have fun. Also seek out canine behavior books with go further into detail. hope things get better for your boy. IP: Logged |
