I have a 16-month-old neutered Sheltie. When he was neutered at 4 months old, he had un-descended testicle in his abdomen. For the last several months about two times a week, he has been getting erections and "humping" the air. He becomes fully erect and very upset. It takes about 5-10 minutes to calm him down by scratching his head. The same thing happens when I brush his tail, back legs, and rear end. I doubt this is normal behavior; however, I am not sure if this requires a vet visit. The erection does go away in 5-10 minutes. Any suggestions, personal experiences, advice... IP: Logged |

I'd say your dog is kind of like a a teenage boy coming into his own, at the moment. This is not necessarily a sexual behavior either. IP: Logged |
