My dog has been sick. I adopted him from an animal shelter and he seemed to have kennel cough. After a week of it not getting better I took him to the vet. They gave him another regime or anibiotics and cough meds. The dog was still active and eating. 2 days later yesterday(Fri) he stopped eating and seems depressed always sleeping somewhere. Doesn't really want to be around us. I took him to the vet again yesterday. He has a temp of a little over 103. Gave another antibiotic and ear drops for possible yeast infection in his ears. He still is not eating and hides under the bed. He doesn't vomit but still has a dry kinda gagging "cough" every now and again. No eye drainage. He is starting to have a little bit of a runny nose w/clear drainage. I don't know what else to do. I am terrified he has distemper. What do I need to do to tell? I rather put him down and not make him suffer. I don't have alot of money. Please help. oh, bye the way, we adopted him May 2 this month. IP: Logged |

Did you call the shelter? The shelter where we got our cat has a low cost vet clinic attached to it. If yours has something similar, you could take him there and it would be fairly inexpensive. If not, it may still help to call them. They might be aware of some kind of illness that has gone around the shelter, or maybe other people who adopted dogs around the same time have called with problems similar to yours. IP: Logged |

If yo want to do a distemper test to see if that is what it is the vets can draw blood and let you know. Sometimes with coughs the lining in the lungs has to be romoved (coughing) in order for the new, healty tissue to grow back. You should definitly talk to a vet though about the probelms...maybe get a second opinion. IP: Logged |
