Long story short - I can't stand to see my 8 yr. old Siberian Husky suffer another summer with both inhaled and contact allergies. All of his life for six months out of 12 he suffers with the itching. His Vet and his doggie opthalmologist have given him shots, shampoos and pills with very limited results, and over-the-counter anti-itch things have no affect at all. The affect of a $17 steroid shot lasts about 6 hours. HELP! Does anyone have good home recipes for anti-itch (preferably dry shampoo)shampoos? Oh yeah, there's the other thing - he doesn't like water (ie bath) so I'm looking for something I can use dry. Baking soda, oatmeal, soothing herbs - a combination of...???

I feel for your Husky, it must be truly awful to go through that, and agonizing for you to watch. Have you thought about going to a natural alternative? I suggest flipping through the phone book and finding a Homeopathic/Holistic Vet in your area. Make an appt and consultation and find out what they are all about.

Bach flower and herbal remedies might be useful in helping your dogs allergies. Acupuncture is even available for animals and has been know to help with allergies.

best of luck, please keep us posted if you find anything that helps!

Thanks for your tips - I honestly have not given much thought to visiting a holistic Vet - although I must say, it does sound appealing at this point. I will keep you posted.
