I like a CLEAN DOG.....I have a 6 month old Pek-a-poo and the hardest thing to keep clean is her EYES. That drainage....tear stain....it's an every 2 day job and not one she likes. I have tried the drops and she hates those.....she seems not to mind baby oil on a Q-tip, but it does not come very clean.

Is there an easy answer to this....it's the most SMELLY thing about her.

I'd love to hear all tips and solutions please and thank you ???

Ooooops ...forgot to ask the WISE one more question.

How often is TOOOOO OFTEN TO BATHE your dog AND is there a good shampoo or conditioner that would keep her from getting so dry ??? I bathe her about once a week...but would like to about twice a week. Is there a good dry bath or powder that would work without smelling like you are covering up the bad smell with something good ??? As you can see, I love my baby, but I want her to smell like a human. TEE HEE HEE

hey sugar.. poodles are prone to tear staining and can get clogged tear ducts (something to look out for).. i'm not too educated on the pek's so i'm not sure if they are prone to them as well.. as for cleaning the staining, i clean my shih tzu/toy poodles eyes every single day, often more than once a day.. i simply use warm water on a soft washcloth or paper towel.. i sweep from the inside corner to the outside corner and use an unused spot on the washcloth for each sweep.. i then also sweep from her nose up to in between her eyes.. if she is super teary i will also wipe across her entire eye, again using a clean area of the washcloth and going from the inside to the outside corner..
i bathe her every other week, usually.. bathing too often is not good for their coats or skin.. when i bathe her i use tear stain pads to clean the eyes.. you buy these at any pet superstore..
i would assume that the q-tip may not work well since it is small (does not cover a large area) and it is not soft.. i have also tried cotton balls in the past but they did not work very well.. i find that warm water on a washcloth or soft paper towel works wonderful and bella actually enjoys having her eyes cleaned this way!
good luck.. hope this helps

If you use a good quality shampoo, such as number one all systems, or miracle coat, or the like, you could wash her every day if you wanted.

You can clean around her eyes with vinagar water. DO NOT get it in her eyes. The smell she is giving off is due to fungal growth...and the folds of her face probably need to be cleaned out with vinagar and or poroxide (not at the same time).

Sugar, just make sure if you use peroxide as suggested here it is well diluted with water. I actually would not use it, I think it's far too harsh for a dog's skin. I woldn't use vinegar round the eyes, either. It can sting dreadfully.
Warm water should be sufficient, and it shouldn't matter how often you use that. Also the tear stain pads.
Doggy smells can come from a lot of sources, one being the wrong diet.

Bellasmommy, can you send me a pic. of your shih/poo? I just got one about 2 weeks ago and I absolutely love him, he is so adorable. He is so tiny, he weighed in at 1 lb and 2 ozs.

Just wanted to see a pic of yours.

I have a min poodle. She needs her eyes cleaned every morning sometimes twice a day. I just grab a kleenex and wipe the goopy stuff while its wet. It is much easier. I keep her face trimmed short so there is no staining. I use Mane n Tail shampoo and conditioner on her. Being careful not to get it in her eyes. You could also use Johnsons baby shampoo.

I have to comment about the baby shampoo. Never use baby shampoo on your dog. The ph balance will ruin their hair as well as their skin. Human shampoo in general is a bad idea. Mane and tail are okay, but they do have a wax base to them, and if you are trying to grow hair or maintain a light coat...it can weight it down. Use quality dog shampoo...a dog show is a great soursce, but "pet edge" now carries many of the best brands in their catalog.
I know vets have been telling people for years to use baby shampoo...but I promise you...its about the worst stuff you can put on your dog's coat...the only good thing it is gentle on the eyes, but there are dog shampoos that are gentle as well.

There are many eye disease and problems small dogs of these 2 breeds are prone to if the parents of both breeds haven't been eye tested. If the eyes are overly goopy its a sign of a problem. Best to have the vet check over.

The more you bathe the more smell you might encounter, therefore needing more bathing.

Not sure about the eye problem but for a healthy coat and less shedding you should bath your dog once evey 10-14 days. I know it dont seem like thats alot but a dogs skin produces a oil that treats the skin and hair of a dog which helps with flakeing and shedding. There is also some stuff made by a company called Happy Jack, they make shed control, dandruff controll and a bunch of other types of syrup like stuff you put in your dogs water and it really works great.

Sorry I couldnt help with the eye thing but I am sure about the bathing part because I asked my vet the same questions.

I do recall coming across Happy Jacks, and I think they make a mange dip too. Fluff: I agree there are some shampoos with Balsom(wax) in them. I personally stay away from any shampoos with balsom in it because I can feel it on my hair. I don't agree with you that johnsons is a problem. Some dogs that have extrememly itchy skin should not be bathed as often as those that don't have skin issues.
