Does anyone here clicker train their dogs? I am trying it on my new maltese/pekingnese pup and my 1 year old pug. My puppy is responding ok to it. I am just no very knowledgable on it.

It all depends on the personality of your dog. If it is working...Great..keep up the good work. If it doesn't work, then your dog will need a different form of training.

I, personally, have never used it as all the comments I heard were bad....but I truly believe this all depends on the attitude of your dog and how willing it is to please you...or get the treat lol

Good luck.

P.S. training is all about the amount of time and the effort YOU put into it. Did they suggest 10 min about 5 times a day? That would be the best way to go about it!

Cheers

I don't clicker train our dogs, but I use "marker training", which is similar, just a word instead of a "click". Here's a site with some info on clicker training, or you can just do a search, and lots of sites will pop up. http://clickersolutions.com

Well I am new to clicker training but I can tell you how the petsmart trainer told me to start out. I am going to buy a book and read on that site that was listed but in a nutshell this is what it is.
First you buy a little rectangle thing with a piece of what looks like aluminum in . You push it and it clicks. The clickers run from 88 cents to $2.00 as far as I have seen Well I started out clicking and when the dog looks at me I give him a treat. He teaches them that the clicker is a positive thing. Then When he would sit I would click and he would get a treat. You can also tell them to sit and when they do what you want click it at the time their bottoms hit the ground , it marks the exact time they did what you told them , then they get a treat. I don't know much. Like I said I just started training them to know it was a good thing when i clicked it . Now we are calling him and when he comes and sits in front of us we click and he also knows sit. he is only 11 weeks so we haven't gotten far yet. I am still in the learning process now and it isn't exactly the way the books teach it so i reccomend buying a book but the trainer knew my pug was a hard to train so she told me to do this to excellerate his training .Thanks for the link
