My dog Max a 4 1/2 old papillon is doing very well w/going potty at my house, but when he is in another house he tends to go anywhere, I mean pee not poop. Is there anyway to teach Max to bark or do something to alarm me when we are not home. IP: Logged |

First question: Is he neutered? Second: If yes, was be neutered before maturity? If he is not neutered or was not neatured early enough...he is probably marking his territory. Something he doesn't feel a need to do at home. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the info, no he is not neutered, I just got Max 4/17 and he has only went in one time in other persons house, I was wondering if there was a way to train him to bark when he had to go, but I do plan to get him neutered. I am waiting for my AKC and vet papers to come so then I can go talk to a vet about what to do. I was under the impression that getting my dog neutered was very painful for him. I am a first time dog owner so any and all info is appreciated....Thanks......Sandy..... IP: Logged |

Neutering is a simple procedure and your vet should provide pain meds as needed. With most dogs, the hard part is keeping them from jumping all over the place when they come home. This applies to female spays as well. I am always amazed how fast they recover. Did you mean 41/2 MONTHS or YEARS? IP: Logged |

Max is 4 1/2 months old, I have only had him not only a week, he seems very laid back at times but when he goes outside he gets all excited, jumps up and down. I am not sure if I want to neuter him, is it really necessary, would you recommed it? Max will not be allowed to have time alone w/any dog, so pups, I am not worried about that but I just wonder if he will be more rambunctious as he gets older? Thanks......Sandy... IP: Logged |

If you neuter him you can give him the pleasure of having other doggie pals without worry. Neutering also prevents cancers (testicular and prostate) and many unwanted behaviors like marking, escaping, and aggression toward other dogs. Unless you plan to show him in conformation, there's really no reason not to. IP: Logged |
