Hi everyone. I have a mixed breed dog. One of the obvious mixes is Chow which I suspect makes her such a good watch dog. I'm glad she warns us when someone strange or new is in the neighborhood but I cannot have anyone new over to my house without her reacting very loudly with barking and even acting aggressive towards that person. I have never seen her bite at anyone but she scares alot of people. She is 2 & 1/2, part chow and probably some lab. She's medium size. What can I do? How do I get her to accept strangers that I welcome into the house? Thanks so much. This has become such a big problem. IP: Logged |

What are you refering to when you say you can't have anyone over because she acts "aggressivley" towards that person? Anyhoo, yes it is in her nature to protect her property and family! I simply suggest you consult a trainer about your problem then you would get the best answers and results. But if you don't have the funding, then I would suggest getting a book on behavioral problems that dogs experience...one great book was "The Dog who Loved Too Much" very infrmative. I can't answer you as I don't know the history of the dog..if the dog is acting due to dominance or fear or territorial.... It would help me a lot if you explained about your dog a little better..ie: where you got him from, age, sex, neutered?, been abused before, are you the first owner?, etc...as much as possible, then I can help a little better Cheers IP: Logged |
