Anyone ever had experience with Science Diet Small bites, for puppies? Or SD all natural small bites? I believe I will use this brand, my aunt does, and her dogs are REALLY REALLY healthy! =) I'm just looking for some experiences with this dog food product, good or, bad. Thanks!

We tried the regular size kibble. My terrier at the time was having skin issues. So we were looking for something that would ease up his itchiness. I had to find another brand. We have ours on Innova now. We went thru about 4 different brands of food. He no longer is itchy and my poodle no longer has digestion problems. It may well work for your dog though. I decided to go for a more natural food as the pet supply store would say. This is only my veiws. I know that with small dogs they need a specific diet. So maybe someone with a toy breed can say what is good. Or I can go to the other forum I go to and ask the group what they feed their malteses.

I think that you will be a great dog owner. Only a conserned pet owner seeks out advise. Even though you are young, you still care enough to find out what you don't know. Did you get the chance to check out the website on parvo that i emailed to you?

bella is a one year old mix shih tzu/toy poodle.. when she was pup i fed her nutro max puppy, she liked it but it wasn't anything amazing.. just last week i began switching her off the puppy food and to innova.. i'm still giving her a little nutro max with the innova but she picks out the innova and gobbles it up.. she loves the stuff.. after doing a lot of research about foods i'm so happy that i pay a couple of bucks more for the really really good stuff..
sorry i haven't tried the science diet stuff.. but i thought i'd share about my dog food experiences and with tons of rave reviews about innova i've switched and couldn't be happier.. you can check out their site and others and make your own educated decision..

does innova come in a canned food? my malti is very picky. she will eat the science nuggets once in a while but not enough to make a meal. she likes canned but i'm not sure which would be best for nutrition. my other dog likes the science nuggets and he does well on it.

"does innova come in a canned food?"

Yes. You can check their website www.naturapet.com to find a retailer in your area.

"she likes canned but i'm not sure which would be best for nutrition."

Both canned and dry foods are nutritionally adequate. Both of my dogs get canned food but the toy poodle gets mostly canned food
with a little dry mixed in.

Innova is a great food and is definately worth a try if its available to you.

Hello, Whichever brand you decide on you should make sure the bag says for toy breeds,or small bites. Their mouth are much smaller. If you can't find any of the ones that have been mentioned in the other post called eukanuba, hills or ? jack's then you could start out with the hills for puppies. I am pretty sure they have a toy or small breed brand. See how he likes it. You may want to step up and get something that has less fillers in it later. They are bit more expensive but well worth it. Much more natural ingrediants in them. Check around for other pet stores other than the the ones most people know of. Dogs also need kibble to be in their diets mostly as opposed to just soft food. I t keeps their teeth stronger. Small dog tend to be notorius for losing teeth and I think its because of us pet owners trying to love them too much and giving them the wrong stuff. Mine love the canned food, but I lay off of it now. Kibble helps to scratch off the tarter off their teeth. But still brushing is needed. I hear that people who give their dogs the barf diet don't need to brush their dogs teeth. The diet itself works for the teeth. Hmm, feel like cooking for your little one.

I will brush his teeth probably once a week along with brushing his coat every night, and giving him a bath every other week and every week spraying on leave in conditioner... I'm so excited! I go to see him may 10th...Thanks for the info, btw my mom's doggy (yorkie) is doing great! Such a playful little thing

I am glad that everything is going well for you Maltese. You know something very sad happened to one of the moderators dogs at furkids. She frequents all the forums there as thats part of her responsibilities. Well she has had two beautiful maltese for a few years now and added a new malt a few months ago. She was going to show him. So she was going to have his baby teeth pulled because the new ones were coming in. If they were not pulled his would not come in correctly. Some may poke into the roof of his mouth and cause pain. So this is supposed to be a fast, easy and common practice. She took all the precautions and had all the bloodwork done to check to see if Desi would be fine with anestesia (sp). Test conclusions were perfectly fine. The poor baby died on the table. He was perfectly healthy. She is obviuosly very upset, along with everyone else on the forum. I don't really know what else to say. Just wanted to say something about it I guess. She knew her vet for a very long time. Very upset also. He was 5 1/2 months old and soo beautiful. Desi rest in peace.
