My roommate just got a new pomeranian puppy...but it's only 4 weeks old, and she's never owned a dog before... I on the other hand have always had dogs from scotty's to my 1 yr old Dobie./shepard mix... So how can I best help her with her new best friend... and how long should she feed it milk from the syringe? also I've never been a cat fan, but her family has 4 of them... what should she be wary of when her family comes to visit... they don't bring the cats, but they are covererd in cat hair... any suggestions guys?? WHY DID SHE GET IT AT 4 WEEKS OLD? thats to young! You should never get a toy breed younger than 12 wks or at least 10 wks... I would suggest feeding it around the clock! I hope things work out! *wishes* IP: Logged |

Don't worry about the cats...no big deal. But 4 weeks is way to young to seperate the puppy from its mom and litter mates....why did she take it so young? My cat died 1 week after giving birth to a litter and we had to hand feed and make them go to the washroom...dog might be doing this on his own by now, but I am not too sure....does the dog pee and poo on its own? If not you need to help the dog by rubbing the areas with a warm, soft cloth...the mothers do this for their puppies the first few weeks of life...I don't really know what age they start doing it on their own. Feed the puppies every hour or so...don't over feed. You will know when it is hungery cause it will start to whine and act fidgitty...usually when a puppy that young isn;t sleeping then it should be eating. It would be best if you called a vet or a local humaine society for advise. Best of luck...you also will want to suggest puppy classes unless you are experienced enouph to teach her dog body language socializing and training.....but still a long way to go!
