You know most of those AKC registered breeds came from MIXES years ago. Cockers and Poodles have been mixed with everything. Has anyone actually tried (and will admit to it) breeding differing breeds to correct faults?!! My friend has a most gorgeous maltese/shih-tzu cross!! I would adore seeing say a papillon mixed with a long hair chichuaua (they almost look identical anyway) or a pap with a pom. How about a chichuaua with a pom for that matter? Or a japanese chin with a papillon or shih-tzu? A yorkie with a pom or chichuaua would be adorable I just bet!! Sorry to offend but I have two breeder friends (close) who admitted to me that they have done this very same breeding; usually with one dog that is purebred and another that is half the same breed and half another comparable breed to "correct a fault". I would appreciate hearing from any mixed toy breeders (other than poodles because they have been "mixed with everything under the sun already")! I would further more possibly like to buy a mixed puppy since I can't afford those $800 price tags. I live in Texas and prefer the puppy to be close by. Retired and no kids, just one super tiny shih-tzu 6lbs 2yrs. Michael, Corpus Christi

Most responsible breeders have their dogs (at least their stud dogs, as it's usually kinda obvious with bit*hes) DNA profiled, and only buy from stock that has been DNAp'd for several generations so they can verify that the dogs are in fact what they say. That's why AKC now demands DNAp'ing on all "frequently used" sires, any male that has sired more than 7 litters. I'm pretty sure the UKC has a similar program, or at least offers the DNAp. NO ethical breeder would cross another breed into their lines, register them as "purebreds", and sell them as such.

I must say if your friend is doing this she is selling her pups illegally as AKC. I have heard of people bringing in same breed studs or bitches from another country to better the breed and keep it straightened out, but never a mix breed and sell them as full breeds.

Well honesty you know those "puppy mill" people already! I have actually heard them say, "well my little pirze male died, so I will just use his papers to register this litter"! Oh yes, I think that switching registration papers is probably more frequent than we even realize. I mean after all without dna testing who would ever know, right? I can tell you that people who can not afford to buy high quality purebreds though would probably prefer such a "mix" to a puppy mill dog at least!

Hmmmmmm, doesn't the world already have enouph suffering dogs. Who is this person to say that breeding one type of dog with another type of dog to be a good idea?

One idiot I know, bred my dog. She thought it was a good idea to mix Pit Bull with American Bull dog because they would "look so pretty"..well let me tell you. He is absolutley gorgious, but he has health problems and a very bothersome behavioral problem..all because she wanted to breed a dog for its looks.

Leave the breeding to people who know what they are doing. Stop encouraging backyard breeders and try going down to the pound and rescuing a very intelligent, lonley on its death bed, dog.
