The biting is normal puppy behavior, especially typical for a pup that was taken away from it's litter too early. Pups shouldn't be seperated from their mother/siblings until they're at least 8 weeks, as after they're about 4 weeks, they're learning about bite inhibition (how hard they can bite before getting corrected, etc) and what behaviors are allowed/not allowed in "dogdom". Because your pup didn't have a chance to learn that from his siblings, it's your job to teach him. This can be done several ways... 1. Every time he nips at you, "yelp" and ignore him for a few minutes afterwards. 2. When he nips at you, calmly tell him "no" (don't yell or get upset), and give him a toy or something that he CAN have. Praise him when he plays with that toy. 3. When he nips at you, tell him "no", and put him in his crate or a room for a "time out" (no longer than 5 mins for a young pup). He'll learn quickly that when he nips at you, he gets seperated and stuck by himself. There are other ways to teach him this too, if you look around online. I've only used 2 & 3 out of the ones above, but 1 seems to work well also from what I've heard. IP: Logged |

Goob is exactly correct in his advise. Make sure to correct the pup when he bites you, but be sure to correct the second he does it not a second after or he won't get it. I've heard other people suggest biting him back...i dunoo though I'd try the others first lol My friend has this problem with his Pug puppy...they have gotten him to stop by picking him up by the scruff of his neck placing him directly infront of the owners face and saying "NO"....he's gotten better, but do know that this will take time so be patient! I do not agree that with that it is a separation problem. Dogs in general learn bad behavior from being with its siblings. I have found out in in past for years and years that pups become better dogs as a adult that HAS NOT been exposed to ruff housing with their LITTERMATES..BOTTEM LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^^^^^^^^^^^SIX WEEKS IS NOT TOO EARLY^^^^^^^^ People even though its how you feel may not be the best for each particular breed and their owners and each individal surrounding the pup or dog may have! Why would you take a puppy away from it's mother at 4 weeks? and I know you said it's only from friends,, but pupies NEED to stay with the littermates till at least 8 weeks,, if not longer. IP: Logged |

I take them at 4 weeks so I can bottle feed them. That way we form a very close bond.Plus,it gives my older dogs and the pup alot of time to get use to each other. IP: Logged |
