Hello I need advise on my Silky. I love him dearly but don't know what to do. I have a 14year old male Silky Terrior. I have aging parents 81years old and my Silky has been living with them for the last 8yrs. He is good therapy for them.. Resently , my Silky is aging fast....He is hyper and fun...but lately his teeth an gums are infected and he pees in the house and loosing his eyesite. Now he is biting and snapping at my hands and feet, and I don't know why. He bite my Dad who has thin skin and I just don't want him to bite any more...Do I put my Dog to sleep..... What do I? First off, your dog needs medical attention to that gum/tooth disease. He should have had a regular cleaning, but since he didn't then he needs the vet to clean them. A gum disease can actually then start a bacterial infection in the urinary system, which may be one reason he is peeing in house. Also, he may need to go out more than what was allowed to begin with...as withholding urine causes backflow and starts a urinary infection of its own. He may also be biting you from not wanting to be handled cause he feels so crappy. So, get vet to take care of him, and take him in your home, with regular visits to your parents. They have a hard time caring for themselves as aging parents, and so it might be refreshing really to get a break from worrying about the dog. Then perhaps, when the dog is stabilized, they can have him on overnight visits so you all can enjoy each others' company! God bless. IP: Logged |

Yes, Pauline is 100% correct. As simple as a nail being broken can cause aggression. If there is a bladder infection or gum infection...your dog is a wreck. Remember, dogs can't say "hey buddy, my teeth really hurt..think you could get it fixed for me"...they respond more like....person goes to touch, then dog bites or growls...in your case the dog bites, which tells me it is in some real pain. So the solution to your problem is understand your dog is getting older and does require more frequent trips to the vet to make sure no problems arrise!
