We have an 8 month old mixed breed female dog. Stools were fine up until About 2 weeks ago she had soft yet not watery stools with mucus in it. She acted fine. Sometimes she had trouble going and couldn't do it all in one outing. We then gave her rice (which she loved) for a day then with some boiled chicken then back to her dog food. She is drinking fine. Stools got better in about 5 days. then did fine for about 1 week. She started with this problem again early this morn. She Barked for us this morning to let her out. Very unusual since you don't hear a peep from her until we come into the kitchen to let her out of her crate. And here we go again, soft/loose bowels.

What should we do now? Rice and chicken again?? Please any info would be greatly appreciated.

Get the dog to a vet, there could be perasites.

Trust me it is better to take the dog to a vet and have it thoroughly checked over than to take the dog when it's dying...been there and I will never hesitate to take my dog to his vet again!

Has your pup been wormed? Has there been any noticable vomiting? I would have a vet check her out and see what they tell you. From the sounds of it right now it does not sound like parvo. Good luck to you.

Thank you for getting back to me. Yes, she has had all her shots and wormed. We took Sasha to the vets last evening. He gave her a thorough check up and she did have a slight fever. Doc believes that it might be some type of parasite or virus he gave her a script of Flazyl 200 (can't read the writing) 1/2 pill 2 times a day for 7 days. says that this should clear up the loose stools.
thanks again for the help

My Min. poodle (Sasha) had somewhat loose stools with some mucus. I was feeding her kibble with about a teaspoon of wet food. With her glucosamine. She ended up gaining weight,so now she eats kibble about 1/8 of a cup with about one teaspoon home made broth, about and enough veggies to equal about 1/3 cup of food total, with glucosamine. Her stools are perfect now since I started her on the current diet, plus she has lost over one pound. Also dogs with mucus in their stool could be getting too much fat in their diet and or have pancreas problems because it is overloaded with fat. Just a thought. But I know you would not give your dog too much fat. A friend of mine thought someone was poisoning her german shepard by throwing something over the fence. It was my friend that was unknowinly hurting her own dog by giving her bacon fat. She is ok now.
