My dog (chow and lab) will not ride in the car. The last time he had to go to the vet he was sedated. I can not believe this is the only way to get him to go on vacation. He is adorable and 2 years old. PLEASE HELP

have you tried systematic desensitization with your dog? they do it with people that have fears; and it works!
i would suggest that you start out by taking the dog to the car and showing it to him. do this once a day for 3-5 days, or more if he doesn't seem relaxed around the car after 5 days. then work it up to putting him into the car. don't turn the car on, but let him just see the inside of the car. i would suggest you have him in there for a maximum of 5 min. and do this once a day until he seems comfotable. make sure you stay with him in the car so he knows you are there. once he seems comfortable you can take him in the car and just drive around the block, getting him used to being in a moving car. again once he seems content, drive with him in the car for longer periods of time.
if he associates the car ride with going to the vet he will hate it; but if he sees it as a enjoyable time with you he should want to go on car rides.
i hope this helps. but it will take time and patience to work him up to the level where he'll want to go in the car. give him as much time as he needs
