My dog, a black Lab, lives to retrieve. I am wearing out my arm. I throw for him for half an hour every day; this is about 100 throws a day and I have developed an ache in my arm/shoulder, that does not go away. I'm thinking there might be some kind of a ball machine that I could use. Any suggestions?

Hi, Have you tried hitting the ball with a tennis racquet (in a park of course)? This gives the dogs a huge run each time, and really a great workout. There are probably commercial things you can use,but a racquet may just do the trick. Good luck.

Have you looked for a used pitching machine. You can set it on the slowest speed. They work great.I have 10 pitbulls and I was always really tired after playing ball with them. So,I went and got a used pitching machine and it works great. Now we play for hours and I am not always tired.

PetsMart sells a ball pitching machine for dogs, but only on their web site. You can get a pitching machine for like baseball..but I couldn't find one that was reasonable price wise. We got involved in flyball, my dog loves it! My husband and I are having a blast. It's a great way to get involved with your dog. I suggest you try frisbee, see if he takes to that too, it's easier on your arm.

The machine at PetsMart can only be purchased on-line and is called "Go Dog Go", it's cost is $115.00.

Flyball is a relay race with jumps and a box that the dog triggers, which shoots a ball out . they catch the ball and run back over the jumps. It involves four to six dog teams, is very fast paced and FUN! Type flyball into your search box and check out some sites. It is an awesome dog sport.Any breed, mixed breed..they can all participate.
