Hi I have a 17 week old purebred Boxer. Only one of his testilcles have dropped. My vet advises that he should be desexed as if it is left it can cause cancer because it is in him. Is there any way that he doesn't have to be desexed as we were hoping to stud him out? IP: Logged |

i just wanted to let you know i had a boxer about 2 years ago and this must be a common problem with them because mine had the same problem. there is a simple surgery that costs about $100.00-$150.00. they take the testicle and open the one that has not dropped and basically drop it for him. it is harmless and the dog did very well. i would recomend that you check around to different vets because i know they do this procedure. also i suggest that you do this soon because they can get cancer by the testicle not dropping. hopefully this helped you a little bit. By all means get a second opinion on this...I would not neuter a potential stud dog UNLESS the problem is HERIDITARY, which it CAN be at times. A GOOD vet should be able to tell you more. Some dogs just take a bit longer than others for the second testicle to decend. A friends Chi was 6 mo before both were down. Our STALLION was 2.5 YEARS before they both were down...LOL, he's sired close to 50 babies since then btw! IP: Logged |

I HAD A MALE BOXER ABOUT A YEAR AGO WITH THE SAME PROBLEM...WE HAD OUR VET DO A MINOR SURGERY TO DROP THE OTHER ONE.I WOULD HAVE A SECOND OPINION.....BOXERS ARE VERY PRONE TO GETTING CANCER SO I WOULD HAVE IT CHECKED OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. IP: Logged |
