I have adopted a litter of 11 puppies and their stray mother. The puppies are only a few days old, and to no surprise, the mother is looking pretty haggard. I'm concerned, though, that she won't be able to produce enough milk for all of them. The mother, who is a now very skinny, medium-size mutt the shape of a collie, has been panting kind of strangely this morning, and I think she's trying to tell me something is wrong. She was also constipated, but I think that ended outside earlier today, but I can't be sure. Any advice on feeding the puppies? Can I bottle-feed them some type of milk?

HI, give the mom 4%cottage cheese with her food, about a half cup a day is good, also get her a good quality canned dog food, that will be easy for her to digest. The pups will need to be wormed at 2 weeks of age(get it from your feed store for that age or a vet). Then worm them every 2 weeks until they leave your house. It's normal for a bitch to be skinny after whelping, also to pant a bit. Take her temp, if it's over 102.5 CALL A VET, she could be retaining placenta or even a pup. Post here again and I will try to help you. I've had 13 years of experience with breeding Labs and now have English Mastiffs....
