I have a 6 month old chihuahua. I was wondering how far to trim his toe nails back. Is there a way to tell? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Just wondered if this is something I maybe able to do myself without taking to the vet or groomer to do. Thanks Danielle and Rocky IP: Logged |

I have some experience in clipping my sheltie's black nails. I use a guillotine type nail clipper. Firstly have that special powder to dab any bleeding nails that may occur with first timers. I used to keep corn starch handy, works as well. Used it twice. This stops the bleeding. Every time you clip check at the tip for a white dot, or anything that begins to look white means you've reached the quick, then you've clipped short enough. Apparantly you should not hear a dogs nails hitting the floor when they walk, that's how short they should be. I'm still working on my dog's nails to getting the quick down. IP: Logged |
