Hi and help! I have an 8 week old black lab who we put in a crate at night. At around 5:00 am (sometimes earlier)she starts barking, whinning, howling ect... I try to ignore her until 6:30-7:00 (which sometimes works) to get her used to that time to wake up. If I get up to tell her to be quiet, she gets more excited. What do I do, and is 6:30 - 7:00 a reasonable time to expect a puppy to stay quiet? She is always outside and we even take turns during the day to tire her out. Any ideas? IP: Logged |

Allow her to use the crate during the day, and even feed her in there so that she associates the crate with a pleasant experience. Make sure she gets a lot of aerobic-play activity during the day; this may tire her so she sleeps well at night. Some people have success by leaving a radio on or a tape-recording of their voices; the success of this varies with the individual pet. In most cases, your puppy will grow out of this behavior.
