I have a 1 and a half year old Jack Russell. He is like a late child to me in that all of my children are grown and on their own. While he is in the house he is obedient and a joy to have around. In the last two months, when I put him in the fenced yard to play with his two big brothers, a Golden Retriever and a stray, he jumps the fence-both 4ft and 6ft, breaks his collar, and even removes his harnass. Thank goodness I have wonderful "friends" in my very large neighborhood, they always call me when they find him. It saddens me that I can no longer let him play free in the backyard. When I allow him to do that, he finds a way out. What kind of training or restraints do I need? I am desperate for help.
Thank you.

Does he do this cause of any fighting or heavy-handed behavior from the other dogs? He may want "out" of that threatening environment. Either way, it's a pain for you and a danger to him, so I would not tie him, he just may strangle himself. Instead, buy a shock collar, adjustable with degree of shock, to train him, from a catalog like Lambriarvet, Jeffers Vet, Omaha Vaccine, and then when he tries to escape he would get a jolt. Or, you can ask a vet for a calm-aid for him, as he seems a bit hyper than usual. Or you can just get/save up for a chain-link fence cage, about $120 at Walmart or Petsmart, and put a tarp top on it or wooden canopy. My Dobe's did this activity also, and the only way I cured it, was to put an electric fence atop the 6-ft fence. It worked in one shot. And cured the neighbor kids from hassling my dogs!! The very reason the dogs tried to jump! My little ole camera recorded those neighbor kids who claimed they were angels. Good luck now.

There are alot of Jack Russell Sites here on the web, with alot of information in regards to them. I myself was thinking about getting one about a month ago, so I thought I would do some research on them. After I read all about them and lol they can climb trees. I thought I didnt need no superman. I hope you find the answer to help yours. But climbing or jumping a 6 foot fence seems like a natural thing for these little guys.
Good Luck
