I have a big problem-my 1 year-old male Shih Tzu/Poodle mix is a biter. My two cousins (ages 5 and 8) came to visit my family, and the younger one was hurting him. Then, he bit him and the older one. Did he bite my older cousin out of fear for the younger one, and how can I control his biting? Please do NOT tell me to go to a trainer. I already do, and we are not working on biting yet. All she said about it was to keep him off of couches and beds, and than is doing nothing. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

A good firm "NO" tone, and putting him in a restraint for a few minutes only. Muzzle. He will then associate his mouth and the word and possibly not do it, however, I think he's been getting teased and so he may do it again. AAnd I would get rid of that trainer. You could also try pepper powder in his mouth, but you risk getting bitten alone from that. He is a biter, and as either a homeowner, or renter, make sure you protect yourself, cause your insurance and you, can be sued for a skin break for big bucks. A biter is unpredictable, irregardless of training, they have a demeanor hidden that can come out when one least expects the "trigger" mechanism, whatever it may be if you have not identified it. Example: I had an OES that was teased by a UPS delivery guy, through the fence, and he hated the truck and all. Best wishes.
