We have 3 week old puppys and the mommy has a infection and it gives the pups diarrhea when we give her the meds and the vet said we have to wean them and give them puppy chow, are they too young? They are beagle/chow/lab/rott./huski/doberman/shepard mixes...Thanx a ton! IP: Logged |

Oh, Heinz dogs! LOL!! Just kidding... Poor mom. Yeah, I would go ahead and give a gruel/mush mix of quality dry dog meal mixed with mush puppy food and warm water. Let sit for a few minutes for the water to be absorbed a bit and warm the food, and all will be fine. You may want to supplement the hydration of each pup by taking a large asepto syringe and gently giving Pedialyte found at your local grocery baby section as well. Contains electrolytes for the body. Then when they begin eating like little pigggies, no need for the Pedialyte unless they seem not to be continuing on course. You could give them some plain yogurt to help that diarrhea as well, via spoon feed. Replenishes the intestinal flora lost. Good luck. IP: Logged |
