We just recently acquired a new dog, and no one knows how old she is. How can I tell how old our new dog is? IP: Logged |

Taking the dog to a vet will help approximate his age. IP: Logged |

What if the Vet's cannot tell. I too am looking to find out my recently rescued dog is. I have been told 2 to 4 years, but she acts like 18 months and still is getting baby teeth. Besides going to a Vet. How else can you tell the age? How does the Vet tell? IP: Logged |

the vet can usually tell by looking the teeth, but dog shouldnt have any baby teeth at 18 months, these are usually gone in the first 6-8 months IP: Logged |

Yes, the vet can tell by looking at the teeth. I don't know how we can tell though. IP: Logged |

I believe they look for the baby teeth and or if a dogs teeth have much gunk on them. If they have gunk that means they are about two or more approx. Or if they are missing teeth. If they are say around 4 and up small dogs tend to loose front teeth, mine has. Coloring of teeth tends to show age too. IP: Logged |
