I have a question to you guys out there. I bought a baby puppy just 2 months old on Dec. 19 (chocolate toy poodle). I was thrilled to have her in my life as I have always wanted a puppy of my own & this was my first. She seemed like the most healthy puppy I had known until Dec. 29. She began to have diahrea (sp?) & vomited a little. I thought she may be adjusting to some different food that I had fed her b/c I ran out of her regular puppy food. However, after she continued w/ these symtoms I took her to the emergency animal hospital on Dec. 31 for testing. She was diagnosed w/ Parvo virus. They began therapy (which was not cheap) & I received a call last night from the animal hospital informing me that she had stopped breathing. Naturally, I was very upset & confused as to how she may have contracted this virus. I researched everywhere & found that the earliest symptoms of this virus show up is 7 - 14 days. I love my "Cocoa" & miss her terribly as does my entire family that met her over the holidays & are equally devestated. My question to you guys is regarding my original purchase of this innocent puppy. The lady I bought her from sold many other breeds to various people. If she was infected before I picked her up, should the seller not refund me at least a partial amount of my original purchase? I contacted the seller only to hear her non-caring reaction that "she could've gotten the virus anywhere". While this is true, the timing is just kinda less pressing that she contracted the virus after I got her. What if she sold Parvo puppies to a lot of people? If any of you have any advice, please contact me. I appreciate it & so does little Cocoa.

In response to the parvo question .First the lady should have replaced your puppy but even then your grief would not have abated .Second ..A few months ago I purchased some poodles and 2 were puppies .of course I put them in with some of my own puppies after a couple days when I thought they were fine .Turns out they had a virus ,and gave it to my puppies also .my vet at the time said parvo ,but even though the systems were similiar ,they were not the same and I started reasearching the problem .I lost several before I found out that it wasn't parvo .Parvo tests will show in the low positive in several diseases that dogs can have .campylobactor and giardia are only two of those (as there are more)The test can show parvo even though parvo is not the main problem and can confuse a vet as well as any but most vets simply say parvo and treat for that .The other problems can be treated with antibiotics ,never in the vein but my mouth and for giardia a special drug .It is always best to have the pet check for all just to make sure that they have eliminated all other diseases as the main factor .There is also coccidia and hypoglycemia that have similar symptoms and can cause death .Parvo stays in the ground about 6 months (I have heard according to the area ) but it is best not to have any pet in an area that has had it for at least a year and make sure they are up to date on all shots .I hope this helps and eases you some .Maybe you can find a new baby to hold and love .May God Bless you and yous .................................................

Sorry to hear about your little poodle. We also have a lovely little Chocolate 3-1/2 Lb
poodle. I don't know what state you are in, but check with someone to see they have a law
that states for certain problems with dogs within a year of purchase, the seller has to replace
the dog. We bought a a white teacup poodle this past summer, she had water on the brain
and within a few months has to be put a sleep, the lady we purchased her from replaced the
dog with a small black one, at no cost, later she called and said she had something for us,
she then gave us another one a white one, a 1/2 sister to the one we had to have put
asleep. She gave us two dogs in place of the one that had water on the brain. If you are
ever interested now or in the future, I can give you her phone number, I believe she even
has a web site, but I would have to get that from her. She specializes in small poodles,
and I think the price was real fair. Any questions, just drop a note. I believe she does air
ship these dogs all over, and this is not a puppy mill operation, both me and my wife have
there, in fact she took care of our 4 poodles while we sent on vacation, but she nornally
doesn.t do this, but she did for us this one time. I do hope you can get some compensation.
Any questions jusst ddrop a line. Tom

No, she will NOT get over PARVO. She needs to go to a vet NOW. They can treat it, but the disease still takes them a lot of the time.
