We have a male 9 month Aussie. We have had him since he was 7 weeks. He does well with not pottying in the house but he still doesn't seem to get the designated potty zone thing. My wife and I religiously walk him to his "area", but he doesn't seem to retain that this is where he can go potty. He will use our lawn and garden instead. His run (10' x 20' gated) used to be filled with large smooth river stones. We heard that dogs would prefer soft grass, so we sodded his zone. It hasn't had any effect. My brother recommended that we frame an area with a 6" layer of sand and a 6" layer of pea gravel over that. He had success with his Lab in very little time. Any suggestions with regard to the construction of a potty zone or further training help?
