Hi Sally, sometimes it takes a day or two for people to respond, not all members check the forum everyday and it is after all the weekend!

Since you are asking questions of a mixed breed - What I would do is first is start researching the Poodle breed and all their traits and typical characteristics and then do the same for Maltese. A dog of this cross will end up with traits from both but there is no way to know exactly what each individual will inherit.

As for finding breeders try a websearch on "finding a responsible breeder". A breeder should be dedicated to preserving Health, temperament, type. You especially want a breeder who breeds selectively and who has health tested their dogs. Look up health issues poodle are prone to as well as those in the maltese - then make sure any breeder is certifying their dogs free of all conditions/diseases (this is more than just a vet check).

Hi Sally and welcome!

I do not have a Maltipoo so I'm sorry but I can't be of any help to you there. I do however have a Multi-poo (in other words a mutt) and I just love her to pieces.

I know that is no use to you at all. I just wanted to let you know that you are not invisible.

Precious's Mommy,
Sunday

Hi Sal, I have an 8 month old malti named Jack. He is a great little guy. He is not yappy at all. He is great with the kids and seems to love everyone.Honestly I can't imagine our life without him! He is high maintainence as far as grooming is concerned, he must be brushed throughly everyday and needs to see the groomer every six weeks in order to keep him handsome!

My computer has been down for a month, thats my excuse for not being here.
I have a mini poodle. She is very much into her owner. She always wants to be with me. When I'm not available she goes to my husband. She does not care to play with other dogs. Gets eager when another poodle comes along though. She does not do well with kids. Is not allowed to touch any. She may bite them. She is a total velcro dog as they say. She can melt me with one look. They are very smart dogs. Both the maltese and the poodle need daily grooming, ear hair plucked. I think malts like to live the same as poodles. Wanting to be treated like king or queen.

I am excited to see someone else inquiring about the maltipoo's, which is what I decided to get. I was actually looking for a different breed, when I came across Romeo's breeder and it has been the best thing that has happened to me. He is a great dog. Always ready for a walk/run and always ready to play ball! Happy birtday to Romeo! he turned 1 today! and is becoming such a little gentleman. He is full grown at a whopping 10 lbs and loves to be near his family. I think that the maltipoo's do better w/ more considerate children, while I don't think that he would really bite hard when my 3 year old bothers him when he doesn't want to be bothered he quickly lets him know not to touch. I hope that I have answered a few of your questions and if you have anymore, please fill free to ask. Bridgett

It isnt hard at all to find information about maltipoos. A maltipoo is a maltese bred with a poodle. Look up the traits of the maltese and look up traits of the poodle. Flip a coin for each and thats what it will end up being. There is no set definition of a maltipoo as they take traits randomly from each of their parents. It is the same with humans. If your mother is a blue eyed blonde and your dad is a black haired green eyed man...you have no idea how the baby is going to turn out until it is born.

Read about both of the breeds...the dog will be something like both of them but not exactly like either of them. Since maltipoos are not a breed and are just a planned mix of purebred dogs..the breeders are breeding to make money. You can find one at a local pet store for anything ranging from 300 to 1000 dollars depending on the store and size of the dog.

Hi Sally, This may be irrelivant but my grandmother has a shih-poo...I would imagine they are similar??? Anyway, she's a trip! She is pretty active and some would even call her "HYPER". But boy oh boy, is she a bundle of love. She did get much bigger than what they expected though...I think they were hoping for a realy small poodle, like the shih tzu or maltise but she ended up being about 20-25 pound lap dog. Hope this helps.

Alabamamom: Hope you have a great day celebrating Romeos 1'st birthday. Don't be surprised if by the age of two he has gotten bigger in weight. When I got Rufus my terrier mix at the shelter. They said he was about one, weighed in at about 12 lbs. At age two he was 22 lbs. I thought he was going to stay that size. He may have gotten slightly taller, not much but gained much in muscle. Look out for surprises like that.
