My dog had never had wet food before and would eat her dry food just fine, until one day she had to have 7 baby teeth pulled out. The vet suggested giving her wet food while her mouth heals.. So we did, gave her Nurto Max Chicken & Rice. We wanted her to go back to eating just plain kibble, no luck, it's been a year and a half and no luck! It's a waste of money to buy the kibble, but I have been told the dry kibble is great for their teeth so I still add it.
This may sound mean, but I just don't know what to do! A couple months ago, I just stopped putting wet food into her bowl(If I dog gets hungry, they'll eat right? NO!) She just stopped eating, I don't think she ate for three days. (We had also tried putting smaller and smaller portions of wet to dry food in doesnt work, I still get kibbles on the floor.) No luck.
I don't want my dog to just eat wet food because I am concered about her teeth. Is just having a couple of Pig's ear/rawhides enough? I know my dog doesnt like to eat "hard" treats as she will spit them back at you, but we let the wet food soak into the dry food so its softer. Should I just give up on the dry food and just feed her the wet? Is that going to have an adverse effect on her teeth? Any help/suggestions greatly appreciated

Hi i would not force her to eat the kibble as this can make her go off her food completely and you want that.
Have you tried pouring the juices from tinned tuna over the kibble see if she will eat it that way or chicken stock.

Over here in the uk we have Denti bones and Rasks which given daily help keep plaque and tarter off the dogs teeth i dnt know what they would be called in your area but you should be able to buy these from any good petstore.

Also large bones help reduce teeth problems but care should be taken that the bons are not the type that can splinter.

I am not sure about the whole food issue, but I do know that even picky eaters like the "Greenie" treats, and they will help the pups teeth. Have you tried them? Romeo's groomer would give him these treats when we'd leave and he LOVED them so much that I had to start buying them too! Just a thought.

Dry food really does'nt do much for teeth either. Chews will definately help keep the teeth clean bu I think your best option would be to brush her teeth regularly...even if she was eating dry food.
Sebastian ate semi-moist food for about 5 yrs of his life and then canned food only for another year....his teeth (according to my vet) are in great shape for an older, toy breed dog. Im sure genetics is also a big factor in dental health...depsite the type of food fed.

Thank you every for your suggestions... We have decided to just keep putting in small amounts of dry kibble, trying to be sneaky.

I know my dog gets her teeth brushed when she goes in for grooming, once every 2 months(we do a mid-clip at home), how often should I be brushing her teeth?

The genetics of my dog are not stellar, anything that can go wrong have, crooked jaw, luxating pallets, soft-palate(throat) had to be shortened, she has had teeth pulled because they wouldnt fall out, infections in her tear ducts, and my poor girl is only a year and a half. We did buy her from a pet store, so I believe she was a puppy mill pup. Throughout all of her surgerys and ordeals, her spirit has not been broken and I couldn't have gotten a better girl.

IMO, daily if possible or at least 3 times per week. I used to brush Natalie's teeth all the time and fell out of the habit but I definately need to start doing it again.
