Hi all!

Well, I switched Murphy over to Innova about a month ago, albeit very slowly, and just started giving him all Innova yesterday.

About a week and a half ago, he had a little stomach distress I attributed (as did my vet) with a little bug that also had him congested.

Ever since then, he just picks at his food, especially at breakfast. I give him his Innova mixed with a couple of tablespoons of wet canned food, just to give it zip, which is how I've done it since he was a puppy (he is now almost 2 years).

He just looks at his breakfast now, and walks away from it. He seems to scarf down dinner, though...probably because he is famished! I don't give him treats during the day, either.

Is it the Innova that he possibly just doesn't like? Or something else? Anyone else have experience like this?

He also still seems itchy, but I want to give the new food about 2-3 months before I judge its effect on Murphy.

Let me know what you all think...Thanks!!!

Robin

how much does he weigh and how much are you feeding at each meal?

bella weighs 12 lbs. and she eats 1/4 cup of innova dog food twice a day.. and it's plenty for her..

remember, the innova has less fillers and therefore they need to eat a lot less..

how old is he? maybe he only needs to eat once a day..

Murphy will be 2 years old in June and weighs about 20lbs. He used to eat about 2/3 cup of Innova mixed with a couple of tablespoons of wet canned food twice a day. He just doesn't seem to be very interested in breakfast anymore, so this morning I put down only about 1/2 cup of the dry Innova and he picked at a little of it.

He seems really hungry at dinner, though and usually eats most of the food.

I had once heard that dogs should really eat twice a day because it is better for digestion regardless of their age. Is that so? Or do most dogs go to a once a day feeding when they reach a certain age?

This just baffles me....

Thanks. Let me know what you think...

I prefer to feed 2 or more meals per day but Sebastian only likes to eat one. If I try to feed him early in the day he will sometimes pick at it but he never eats his full meal...then later in the evening he gobbles it up. Sounds similar to what your dog is doing....maybe he just does'nt have much of an appetite early in the day.

a lot of dogs do go on once a day feedings once they reach maturity (one to two years typically).. my parents dog has been eating once a day since she was 1 year old.. she'll be 14 in june..
bella is fed twice a day only because she was so tiny when we got her that we had to feed her every 3 hours to prevent hypo-glycemia.. i've kept her on twice a day since she seems happy with it.. if she turned her nose at breakfast but ate dinner then i would just feed her dinner
