I am wondering the same thing. My Dh wants to try it with both our dogs. If someone here has advice about it I would also love to hear it

I would say stay away from any type of training done by a PET STORE.
Try a private or semi private setup. Ask your local keenel club about lessons or good canine citizen classes.
My expieriance wasn't good and i wouldnt recomend it to anyone.

One of my co-workers just finished up classes there with her dog. Overall, she seemed pretty happy with it.

I have done both the puppy class and the advanced training class through petsmart, and I thought they were awesome- the puppy class is for more than anything socialization, and it does a great job of that, allowing puppies plenty of "play" time. The puppy class was about 5 pups total, as the purpose really is to socialize, and the advanced was much smaller and more focused. Our instructor was great- very knowledgable and great with the dogs. I would definately recommend Petsmart classes based on my experiences.

Well we signed her up for April, as she is still recovering from her surgery. I am pretty excited about it! It will be a great bonding experience for both of us, and maybe once training is done, she wont think she is alpha anymore.

I worked at petco so i got the training there for free. I found it useless really. It didnt teach anything more than what you read in 5 pages in a dog book. Pick up any breed dog book at the store and read the few pages they have on training and you will know everytyhing that the trainer will teach you.

I would say that it DOES depend on the trainer. Keep in mind that most of the trainer positions are offered to persons with no experience and most of the trainers ive seen in these places are age 18 to 20ish making 7 bucks an hour. Some of them might know what they are doing, yes...but I personally wouldn't recommend spending any money on it.

I agree w/puggleowner I sent my dog to petsmart for basic training and it does focus mainly on socialization but I liked it though it was fun and I learned sit, stay, settle and that kind of stuff overall I liked it. It does depend on what you are looking for though I was not looking to make Max (papillon male) very well behaved just tolerable and loveable. He has fun and he listens somewhat thats all I like (I enclosed a pic of Max)......

I love Papillons! But my poodle stole my heart the first time I laid eyes on her.
This is my baby! http://www3.telus.net/public/s.smuin/Picture%20004.jpg
Your little one just looks so sweet, they always look so innocent!

I'm looking for basic obedience, come when called etc. She is a year and a half old now, she can sit, stay, but she never will come when called, even with treats, I just don't know what to do! I really hope this training program will help. She was a rescue pup, so I am thinking maybe something happened to her when she was young, but I got her at 3months... do they really remember before that?
