I was just posting on another subject and thought I'd see if anyone had any helpful suggestions on my latest dilemma:

As with most puppies, Bailey is absolutely enthralled with toilet paper rolls (and even gettin tissues out of the trash cans). He tears it to shreds, eats somes, and just makes a general mess!! UGH! Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop this behavior? I haven't used the Bitter Apple spray yet (which usually stops him from other things) because ...well... it's toilet paper! LOL... and it needs to be usable! We have to take it off the roll and put it out of reach (which does not make for a happy mommy or daddy). Bailey is constantly getting scolded and scolded when he steals it, and we just can't seem to stop him on this one. I think this is when the stubbornness comes out
Any suggestions? stories? HELPPPPPPP!

You are not alone MonsterBailey!!!

My two pups just LOVE toilet paper, Kleenex, paper, paper towels, basically anything having to do with paper, the LOVE!!! Quite honestly, they get more excited over tearing up paper than they do with all their toys...go figure!

We have resorted to closing every bathroom door at ALL times (home or not, it IS closed)!!! There have been a few occasions where we forgot to close the bathroom door before we left, and have come home to a beautifully decorated kitchen floor with shreds of toilet paper or Kleenex...lovely! Sometimes you just have to smile and laugh at these things!

I think for their birthday (yep, they will get a birthday present) I am just going to buy them a 24 pack of toilet paper!!! HEHE

And yes, I would not recommend using sour apple on the toilet paper...that would be (and could cause) a pain in the butt (pun intended)!!! LOL

All my info. probably wasn't a huge help, I just had to add my two cents. Well anyway, best advice I can give you is too keep the bathroom door closed at ALL times!

Kristi

haha... loooooooved the pun, Kristi! LOL...

As far as closing the door, we definitely do that.... it's just the times we forget or don't close it all the way. But dang..... it's still a pain to even have to deal with. The other night I was in the bath TRYING TO PRUNE UP AND RELAX.... so the door was open slightly and sure enuff Bailey came BARRELING IN, toilet paper roll in mouth, and was so kind to drop it in the water! ugh... puppies, puppies, puppies!

I really wish I could spray the Bitter Apple so that he'd just lose interest.....! I need SOMETHING!

Hey Monster Bailey.

Are you sure that your pup isn't named Milo? LoL. It's kind of funny when you turn your head for a second, or go and answer the phone and when you look back it looks like a tornado came through and only targeted the toilet paper. Milo got so bad that he was pooping it out. Not a pretty sight. anyways, what i thought helped, for atleast the paper roll, is to not let any hang down, keep it so that it is all together, that way he can't get it. That helped for me, but he still goes into the garbage can and pulls it out. Anyways, its a thought, worked for me.

Good luck
Christina

MonsterBailey~

Loved the story! Bailey was just trying to help you out a bit...you know, something to dry off with! HAHA

Milo~

Yep, before we began closing the door, we did exactly what you mentioned (making sure no toilet paper was hanging down). That definitely did help! But, then they decided to be cute and grab Kleenex out of the garbage (EWWWW)! So, we had no other choice but to keep the door closed at all times (or try to at least )!

Oh well...watcha' gonna' do!

oh believe me, we haven't put the toilet paper on the roll holder in months!! It now sits on the back of the toilet, but that's a royal pain too....I have been having a lot of back pain lately, and I SWEAR it's due to the fact that I'm twisting and turning on the toilet just to get the toilet paper roll! LOL I think I might spray the Bitter Apple on the actually holder for a bit.... perhaps that will associate "bad" with the toilet paper. I doubt it tho.... I agree it's all about "the paper" when you're a puppy!
