Hi,

I have a 4 Month old Shih Poo. His hair, like yours is pretty straight with a little wave in it. When he is finished his bath his hair gets pretty crimpy, but straightens out afterwards. I noticed that his hair grows pretty quick, especially on top of his head. He has a grooming appointment next monday. By the way, just a helpfull hint, if your dog is anything like my dog, watch out for his nails. We have to clip his nails once every 2 weeks. Hope this can be of some help. I don't really know much about the tail though.

Thanks,

More Shih-poo owners! Welcome to the boards! =)

I can't help with your question, but I wanted to welcome you. I am a soon-to-be Shih-poo owner myself

Tail docking is something that is done to poodles here in america. It is being banned in parts of europe. But for now here in the U.S. it goes with the poodle territory. My poodle has a full undocked tail. The way I see it the breeders of your pup wanted the pup to look more poodlish, it would seem. Usually with mixes they don't bother.
For the lenght of hair. It will undoubtedly grow long. Both the shitzu and the poodle have hair that never stops growing. So you will need to always brush to keep matt free if you want it to be long. If you don't brush often your beautiful dog will get these ugly matts and his hair will have to be completely shaved off and start all over. So brush brush brush. You can put the cute little top knot bow to keep the hair off his'her face, but that should be changed daily to avoid rubber bands getting stuck and hair breakage. So what color is she?

Welcome and congrats on your pup!!!

Wow, look at all these shih-poo owners coming around! Maybe we shih-poo owners are not a "rare breed" ourselves! LOL

I have never heard of a shih-poo having a cropped tail, interesting. Would I do it/want it done, NO, but that is just my opinion.

His hair will definitely get long if you don't trim it. I keep my shih-poos hair short, and I absolutely LOVE it (it helps to reduce some of the brushing time)!!! I am getting some pictures developed this coming weekend with some pics of their new short haircut, so I will post them (or at least attempt to ) when I get them.

As far as hair goes, my two shih-poos have wavy hair.

Have a GREAT day,
Kristi

I, too, am another ShihPoo owner!! woooohooooo.... let's open an online site all our own! HEHE....

Bailey's tail isn't cropped either... nor have I ever heard of one being cropped. I've chatted w/lots of other shihpoo owners and seen pictures too (all w/tails).. Hmmm.. oh well, just consider it 'character' ... hehe.

As far as the hair, I've seen both curly and straight ... obviously depending on how much shih vs poo in your baby. Bailey's is straight with a little wave too it.

The big advice for the day is DEFINITELY make sure you that you brush/comb his hair every day. You'll definitely have to start taking him to the groomers once he gets all his shots/vaccinations (and bordatella). OH! I also suggest (as do many others on this site) that you try the EARTHBATH Shampoo products. They have one specifically for puppies and it's truly the best, in my opinion.

In the meantime, welcome to the site! and sharing pictures is a REQUIREMENT! (hehe)
