Hi there I didnt get my pom until she was about 5 months. She wieghed 5.5 lbs and has pretty much stayed at this wieght since we got her. She is a little over a year now so I would assume she is fully grown. Hope this helps a little. I would think though that at two months your guy is gonna get bigger maybe a little bigger than you wanted. I do know puppies constantly grow at this age, at least all the puppies i have had.

At 2 months old...4 pounds is a VERY LARGE pomeranian. The smaller breeds tend to triple in size from what they are at about 2 months (8 weeks) old. That isnt completely accurate...but it is a rough estimate. Myself and my parents have three toy dogs between us. At 2 months old Pom #1 was 1.5 pounds, Pom #2 was 2.5 pounds, and my chihuahua was 8 ounces. Pom #1 is now 5 pounds....5.5 if shes fat. Pom #2 is 8 pounds...and the chihuahua is a little over 2 pounds. So the chihuahua more than tripled in size and he still has a few more months to grow (hes 9 months). The other two poms are full grown at those sizes. I would expect a 4 pound 2 month old pomeranian to be in the range of 12 to 15 pounds. That is still a small dog but it is a very large pomeranian.

My 12 year old female toy pom is 4.5 lbs. I would think that your pom will be get much larger.

Why are you so upset? He's a big pup- big deal. He's still very small compared to rest of the dog population. Based on what small beagles and pugs weigh, I estimated that my pug/beagle mix pup would grow to about 15 pounds- well, she's 26. That doesn't make me upset though, or make me love her any less! Is there even such a breed as a "toy" pom? I know they are recognized as a mini-version of the spitz breed, but I never heard of a toy pom in and of itsef, which reinforces the fact that breeders selling to you with a promise of a "toy" size are full of s$#*. Unless it is in the actual bloodline, such as a toy poodle, it's very difficult to predict how big a dog will get-- you can breed two small parents and hope for the best, but you can't really predict to any degree of certainty that all the pups will be small. A reputable breeder should have informed you of that, so you were prepared.

As for the biting thing, this behavior is very common in puppies, they are teething and want to chew on everything! He should eventually grow out of this, but there are a number of things you can do in the mean time to discourage this behavior, such as "yelping' when he does bite you to let him know that he is hurting you, and then praising him lavishly when he stops.

4.5 is an average pom size. Well the size a pom SHOULD be. I bet the average pom probably weighs closer to 9 or 10 pounds because all of the poor breeding choices made out there. Poms should be 3 to 7 pounds but are often larger. Thats a huge pup you've got on your hands....its gotta be a mix. Half keeshound maybe? Or american eskimo or something?

By the way i forgot to mention Pomeranians are supposed to be toy size dogs and the largest is 7 pounds. i have seen purebred pomeranians, they have short feet and hands and i saw one that was 10 years old and weighed only 5 pounds, mine has long feet and hands and is not pure. gil

Does he look more like a fox or a teddy bear? My poms look more foxy but are around 5 lbs. I have seen some weighing 10-11 lbs but were taller that the standard. As mistress said it all comes from bad bredding so he may not be a mix just poorly breed.

hi 3dogsihave, i think you are right its just bad breeding, today i showed him to a trainer and she also told me the same thing: he is a pomeranian.
he has the foxy face, i'll even be happy if he is 11 pounds! do you know how large is the largest pomeranian?
by the way how do you post pictures i tried and could not do it. thanks, gil

Largest pomeranian is 7 pounds. Thats what the largest is SUPPOSED to be however. I have a coworker who has two chihuahuas that weigh 15 and 20 pounds. (and they are supposed to be smaller than poms) So thats just an example. My guess was what..18 pounds on your pom? Probably 15 to 18 i think. American Eskimos look very similar to poms so there really is no way to tell if this breed is in your dog at all. They can weigh anywhere from 6 pounds all the way up to 35 pounds. I can assure you that your dog will NOT get all the way to 30 pounds however. Your pom *could* be purebred pom. Some breeders breed their dogs larger because it is less of a health risk than breeding toy dogs. It is very difficult at those tiny sizes so they breed larger dogs with larger dogs.

Good luck with your pup...I know all too well about the size issue. I got a standard poodle that I was promised would be a large dog....she never even made it within 10 pounds of the MINIMUM weight the breed is supposed to be so I always doubt that she is purebred. Lots of people wont understand our concerns but when you know exactly what kind of dog you want and something like this goes wrong...it can be very upsetting. How about you share your dogs extra weight and size and I'll put it on my poodle? =D

thanks mistresskela, you are great. i am just hoping that he wont get larger than 12 pounds. so i am glad that you understand how important size is to people with small houses.
i also have a chihuahua and he is one year old and weighs only 3 pounds. i wish we could do that, you get the extra weight of my pom and give it to your doggy so mine would stay small!!!! my pom does not have very big paws, they said if the paws are not too big he will not get heavier than 15 pounds, that is still too big for me. anyhow keep in touch thanks a lot: Gil

To MistressKela:

I saw ur post and I dont think its totally acurate when u told her the pups gotta be a mix just because its on the larger side. Pomeranians are getting much larger now a days, its getting rare to see a breed standard pom. my aunt had one that was the size of an american eskimo and he was pure. My best friend has a 9month old female weighing in at about 10 pounds. Its sad but true, poms are definatetly getting larger.
